On February 28, 2011, the Ministry of Commerce organized a symposium on standards for the commercial service industry. The meeting invited responsible persons for standards work from seven national industry associations, including the Laundry and Dyeing Professional Committee of the China General Chamber of Commerce. Director Di Jiankai of the Ministry of Commerce and relevant leaders attended the meeting and carefully listened to reports on standards work from the industry associations.
At the meeting, Wang Houzeng, Executive Deputy Director of the Laundry and Dyeing Committee of the China General Chamber of Commerce, spoke on behalf of the committee and introduced the current status of standard formulation in the laundry and dyeing industry. As of February 2011, the committee had completed the formulation of two standards: "Service Operation Specifications for the Laundry and Dyeing Industry" and "Service Quality Requirements for the Laundry and Dyeing Industry." Additionally, three standards—"Terminology of the Laundry and Dyeing Industry," "Technical Specifications for Laundry Service Contracts," and "Quality Requirements for Garment (Suit, Trousers) Ironing"—had been approved by the Ministry of Commerce and were being drafted in cooperation with relevant industry units. Meanwhile, to further accelerate the development of industry standards, promote rapid progress in the standardization of China's laundry and dyeing industry, and protect the legitimate rights and interests of consumers and operators, the committee planned to apply for the establishment of eight industry standards this year, considering both leather care and laundry quality based on the actual situation of the industry. These are: "Professional Terminology for Leather Care," "Quality Requirements for Cleaning and Care of Casual Shoes," "Quality Requirements for Cleaning and Care of Genuine Leather Sofas," "Quality Requirements for Cleaning and Care of Aniline Leather Jackets," "Quality Standards for Washed Garments," "Quality Standards for Dry-Cleaned Garments," "Quality Requirements for Shirt Ironing," and "Conditions for Opening Laundry and Dyeing Shops."
Facing issues such as business management jurisdiction, the establishment of the Laundry and Dyeing Standardization Technical Committee, and funding problems during the standard formulation process, Deputy Director Wang Houzeng also made suggestions to relevant leaders at the meeting, which received their attention.
