Looking Back at 2010—Ten Major Events in China's Laundry and Dyeing Industry

1. The China General Chamber of Commerce Laundry and Dyeing Professional Committee successfully completed its re-election.
The second member representative conference of the China General Chamber of Commerce Laundry and Dyeing Professional Committee was held on the afternoon of August 28 in Shanghai. More than 170 member representatives from Beijing, Shanghai, Tianjin, and other regions attended the conference. According to the charter, 112 new council units, 68 executive council units, and 32 director units were elected. Wang Shuyuan was re-elected as the second director of the Laundry and Dyeing Committee, and 33 deputy directors and secretaries-general of the second term were appointed.

2. The national occupational standard for "Leather Care Worker" was released.
Entrusted by the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security, the "National Occupational Skill Standard for Leather Care Workers" proposed and organized by the China General Chamber of Commerce Laundry and Dyeing Professional Committee was officially promulgated by the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security on November 4, 2010. The Laundry and Dyeing Committee is now organizing the development of supporting training materials as required, and the training and professional certification of leather care workers are also being carried out gradually.

3. The "Guiding Opinions of the Ministry of Commerce on Accelerating the Development of the Laundry and Dyeing Industry" were issued.
To further promote the healthy development of the laundry and dyeing industry, the Ministry of Commerce, with the cooperation of the China General Chamber of Commerce Laundry and Dyeing Committee, issued the "Guiding Opinions of the Ministry of Commerce on Further Accelerating the Development of the Laundry and Dyeing Industry." The opinions put forward specific requirements in seven aspects: strengthening planning guidance and optimizing industry layout; cultivating independent brands to improve market competitiveness; promoting service innovation to enhance service quality; applying advanced technology to promote energy saving and environmental protection; improving laws and standards to promote standardized development; increasing policy support to promote enterprise development; and strengthening basic work to guide scientific development of the industry.
The opinions propose that during the "Twelfth Five-Year Plan" period, the industry’s annual operating income should strive to grow by more than 18%, with operating income exceeding 100 billion yuan by 2015; and the rate of employees holding certificates should reach over 30%.

4. The "2010 (11th) China International Laundry and Dyeing Industry Exhibition" and related activities were successfully held in Shanghai.
The "2010 (11th) China International Laundry and Dyeing Industry Exhibition," jointly organized by the China General Chamber of Commerce Laundry and Dyeing Professional Committee and Guangzhou Xinzhilian Exhibition Service Co., Ltd., successfully concluded on August 28, 2010, at the Shanghai World Trade Mall Exhibition Hall. During the exhibition, a total of 8,308 professional buyers from across the country and multiple countries and regions in Asia and Europe visited for procurement. The exhibition covered an area of 6,000 square meters with over 300 booths, gathering more than 150 well-known brands from 12 countries and regions including the United States, Japan, Germany, France, Italy, and Spain. The on-site and intended transaction amounts exceeded 100 million yuan.
Concurrently held events included the "First National Commercial Service Industry Skills Competition Laundry and Dyeing Professional Skills Contest," "National Laundry Technology and Management Lecture Demonstration," "Little Swan Industrial Washing Machine Comprehensive Solution Seminar," "New Equipment Technology and Application Seminar for Wet Cleaning Replacing Dry Cleaning," and "American Alliance Company Self-Service Laundry Seminar," attracting many industry professionals to actively participate.

5. The Leather Care Professional Office of the China General Chamber of Commerce Laundry and Dyeing Committee was established.
According to industry development, the needs of the Laundry and Dyeing Committee’s business work, and suggestions from industry insiders, the "Leather Care Professional Office" of the China General Chamber of Commerce Laundry and Dyeing Professional Committee was established in Beijing from December 2 to 3, 2010.
This office, as an internal department of the Laundry and Dyeing Committee, will uphold the committee’s role as a bridge and link, connecting higher and lower levels, organizing, coordinating, guiding, and implementing national regulations and standards related to leather care, compiling professional training materials, conducting technical exchanges, industry cooperation, professional competitions in leather care, and comprehensively carrying out work to promote the healthy development of the industry.

6. The first domestically produced tunnel washing machine (Laundry Dragon) was successfully developed by Jiangsu Haishi Machinery Group.
China’s first domestically produced tunnel washing machine set was born at Jiangsu Haishi Machinery Group, with a demonstration and launch event held at the Haishi Group headquarters on November 10. The entire equipment consists of six subsystems: weighing loading conveyor system, main washing tunnel system, squeezing dehydration system, shuttle conveyor system, drying system composed of four powerful dryers, and the overall electrical control system. It can wash 1.5 tons of clothes per hour. Currently, 16 patent applications have been submitted for this equipment, including 8 invention patents, with 10 patents already granted.

7. Shanghai laundry and dyeing enterprises served the Expo, winning honors for the industry.
During the Expo, many Shanghai laundry and dyeing enterprises represented by Shanghai Funait Laundry Service Co., Ltd., Shanghai Elephant King Laundry Management Co., Ltd., Shanghai Green Ring Laundry Co., Ltd., and Shanghai Zhengzhang Industrial Co., Ltd. actively responded to the call of relevant government departments, providing services for the Expo venues. They cleaned over one million pieces of clothing and achieved error-free service during the Expo. This is not only an honor for the enterprises but also a glory for the laundry and dyeing industry.

8. Guangdong Tiantian Laundry served the Asian Games, Lu Zhiji honored as torchbearer.
Guangdong Tiantian Laundry Chain Co., Ltd. became the designated service unit for the 16th Asian Games. During the Games, they handled a daily washing volume of 120,000 pieces of clothing and completed the service task with zero complaints and high-quality washing, receiving praise from athletes from multiple countries and continuous media coverage.
During the torch relay of the 16th Asian Games, Lu Zhiji, vice director of the China General Chamber of Commerce Laundry and Dyeing Committee and chairman of Guangdong Tiantian Laundry Company, was one of the 208 torchbearers and the only torchbearer from the national laundry and dyeing industry at this Asian Games.

9. Announcement of the results of the second national well-known brand survey of the laundry and dyeing industry by the China General Chamber of Commerce Laundry and Dyeing Committee.
After four months of online voting, questionnaires, and comprehensive evaluation, 48 enterprise brands were finally established as "the second national well-known brands in the laundry and dyeing industry," including 33 laundry service brands (including "regional operation" brands), 8 washing equipment brands, and 7 laundry chemical auxiliary material brands.
Among the well-known brands established this time, 17 were listed in the "first China laundry and dyeing industry well-known brand survey," while the rest were newly listed. These include century-old "time-honored brands" as well as newly established rising stars. It can be seen that stable and developed brands continue to strengthen and consolidate their positions, and the growing emerging brands undoubtedly play a good role in promoting the development of the industry.

10. Laundry and dyeing industry experts were selected for the first time as "Masters of Chinese Traditional Skills and Crafts" in Beijing.
In the selection event for "Beijing Commercial Service Industry Masters of Chinese Traditional Craftsmanship Skills," jointly organized by the Organization Department of the Beijing Municipal Party Committee, the Commerce Commission, the Municipal Human Resources and Social Security Bureau, and the Municipal Federation of Trade Unions, three experts in the washing and dyeing industry—Wu Jingmiao, Qi Datong, and Jiang Xiling—were selected for the first time as representatives of the washing and dyeing industry.
