On the bustling Moyu Road in Anting Town, Jiading District, there is a laundry shop called "Juntang." Since opening the shop in 1989, owner Liu Juntang has found nearly 200,000 yuan in customers' clothing pockets and has returned every penny to the owners without keeping any.
Among the customers who come to do laundry, many are careless, "especially some gentlemen who leave their clothes at the shop and rush off." Liu Juntang said that once, before washing, he checked a coat pocket and found something hard inside. When he took it out, it was folded 100-yuan bills totaling 2,000 yuan.
Some careless customers also leave behind personal belongings. Last summer, a boss drove a car to the shop to have clothes washed. After taking the receipt, he hurriedly left, completely forgetting a briefcase he carried. When Liu Juntang unzipped it, it was full of brand-new 100-yuan bills, totaling over 100,000 yuan.
Besides cash, items forgotten in pockets by customers often include passbooks, credit cards, rings, necklaces, shopping cards, gym cards, ID cards, transportation cards, watches, and phone batteries. He records each item in detail. In a "Lost and Found" book, the reporter saw detailed records and return dates for items ranging from rings and necklaces worth thousands of yuan to small items like cigarettes and lighters. The reporter also saw that a customer surnamed Li forgot money in his pockets three times during laundry visits, with the largest amount being 1,600 yuan and the smallest 200 yuan.
Recently, at the launch ceremony of Shanghai's first "Shanghai Good Samaritan Festival," Liu Juntang was honored as a "Shanghai Good Samaritan."
Liu Juntang, 50 years old this year, opened his first laundry shop in Anting Town in his twenties. The shop is small, but he is honest and does excellent washing and ironing, earning unanimous praise from customers.
