According to reports from Huaxi Metropolis Daily and the Sichuan Laundry Industry Association, on the morning of the 17th, an ironing machine exploded at a laundry center in Quanfuzhen, Shizhong District, Leshan City, causing multiple injuries. Currently, the safety supervision and quality inspection departments of Shizhong District have intervened, and the cause of the explosion is under investigation.

The laundry center involved is located in Group 5, Fucun Village, Quanfuzhen, named Leshan Tiantian Laundry Center. The explosion occurred in the ironing workshop, which is a brick-wood structure with an asbestos tile roof. After the incident, nearly half of the asbestos tiles on the roof of the nearly 1,000 square meter workshop were blown off by the blast wave. The ironing machine that exploded was in the middle of the workshop; after the explosion, it was displaced by more than 1 meter, and the area around the machine was in disarray.
According to a worker who was present at the time of the explosion, he was working in front of another machine in the workshop when the boiler had just pressurized the ironing machine involved. Shortly after, the machine exploded with a "boom," causing not only property damage to equipment and the factory building but also injuries to several workers around the machine. Coincidentally, it is understood that a similar explosion accident recently occurred at an internal laundry factory in Chongqing, resulting in multiple casualties.
The Laundry Professional Committee of the China General Chamber of Commerce stated that the direct cause of the accident was some laundry enterprises introducing seriously substandard equipment. With the rapid development of the laundry industry and the resulting large-scale equipment expansion, safety hazards have become increasingly apparent in various enterprises. These issues stem from defects in the safety protection devices of the equipment itself, non-compliance with safety operation procedures, enterprise leaders focusing more on production while neglecting safety management, and production personnel lacking safety education and self-protection awareness.
Safety in production is of paramount importance. Without safe production, there is no production safety. Once an accident occurs, employees are injured, families are distressed, enterprises suffer financial losses, and the industry’s reputation is damaged.
Therefore, the Laundry Committee once again reminds all practitioners that with the arrival of the laundry peak season, which is also a high-incidence period for safety accidents, all enterprises must take this as a warning and resolutely prevent similar accidents from happening again.
