In Xinhe Village, Qixia Street, Qixia District, Nanjing, 17 laundry companies were ordered to shut down by law enforcement due to pollution caused by directly discharging wastewater into the river. Jiangsu City TV has reported on this matter continuously, and now new problems have emerged. The companies shut down account for one-third of the local laundry industry in Nanjing, causing a significant impact on the current laundry industry.
The person in charge of the closed laundry factory stated that in order to keep hotel bathrooms operating normally, they had to transfer orders to some legitimate companies from other regions.
It is understood that there are currently more than 60 laundry companies in Nanjing city, with dozens of small workshops located in the suburban areas. These have poor production environments, abuse chemical materials, lack warm water washing and high-temperature disinfection, and over 95% of the companies have not conducted environmental impact assessments. This situation arises because the investment in environmental protection equipment is too small, and small enterprises cannot afford it. A person in charge of a legitimate laundry company said that they have invested more than 2 million yuan just in environmental protection. To solve the difficulties of small and medium laundry enterprises, the Nanjing laundry industry is leading the establishment of the Nanjing Ecological Environmental Protection Laundry Park, which will centralize laundry companies scattered across various city districts into the park, upgrade equipment, recycle wastewater and exhaust gas, and achieve compliant discharge through centralized sewage treatment.
Currently, Nanjing is preparing to build the Ecological Environmental Protection Laundry Park. The startup funds have been raised, and construction can begin once the site selection is completed. The leader of the Nanjing Laundry Industry Association stated that having unified sewage treatment facilities, unified production conditions, and unified strict standards will bring enterprises into a normal production track. Before the laundry park is completed, the Laundry Association will assist enterprises that meet the conditions for rectification to improve production conditions and handle relevant environmental protection procedures.
