A recent fire incident at a dry cleaning shop has once again sounded the alarm for safety production in the laundry and dyeing industry. The following is a summary of the related report from NetEase News:
On January 25, a dry cleaning shop suffered heavy losses due to a fire caused by the dry cleaning machine. The shop owner questioned the quality of the machine. In response, the manager of the dry cleaning machine manufacturer explained that the owner had previously replaced the bearing by herself, and improper replacement could easily cause oil leakage from the oil tank. They hope to resolve the matter through legal channels.
More than a dozen mink coats burned in the dry cleaning shop fire
On the 26th, reporters visited the dry cleaning shop. At that time, the rolling shutter door was locked, the shop's signboard was scorched, and a notice was posted next to the door stating roughly: "Due to a fire inside the shop, customers' clothes were damaged. Customers are requested to come forward to register..."
The shop owner introduced that the dry cleaning shop was opened about two years ago with a total investment of more than 200,000 yuan. She opened the rolling shutter door, and the reporter saw the shop in complete disarray.
"A total of more than 900 sets of clothes were destroyed, including more than a dozen mink coats, as well as shoes and car seat cushions. Compensation will be at least 600,000 to 700,000 yuan. Including the investment, the loss is nearly one million yuan," said the shop owner.
Smoke filled the dry cleaning shop within two minutes
The shop owner recalled that she spent more than 70,000 yuan to purchase this dry cleaning machine. It was installed by the manufacturer's staff who also taught her how to use it. She was the only one in the shop who knew how to operate the machine. The machine was only powered on when in use and turned off otherwise. At the time of the incident, the machine had been powered on for less than 10 minutes.
In the surveillance video provided by the shop owner, the reporter saw that at about 9:15 on January 25, she was standing in front of the equipment organizing clothes. At about 9:18, flames appeared from the back of the dry cleaning machine. Within two minutes, the entire room was filled with thick smoke. Even though she and neighbors tried to extinguish the fire with fire extinguishers, it was to no avail.
Later, the reporter saw in the fire department's accident report that the fire started at the bottom of the dry cleaning machine. The cause was overheating of the machine during operation, which ignited other items and caused the fire.
Shop owner: hopes manufacturer will compensate
The shop owner said that at the time of the incident, there was a beige mink coat inside the dry cleaning machine during the washing process. She glanced at the time once but before the time was up, she was busy with other tasks in front of the machine. A few minutes later, when she looked back, she saw small flames on the front of the machine. She was about to call the upstairs staff to help extinguish the fire but after taking two steps, she saw large flames coming from under the machine.
The shop owner said she could not accept the repair cost for the bearing, so she had replaced it herself. However, she believes the cause of the fire was a problem with the dry cleaning machine's oil tank. She hopes the company will step forward and share the responsibility for the accident.
Manufacturer: improper operation easily causes oil leakage
Subsequently, the reporter interviewed the manufacturer. The manufacturer said that after the incident, the shop owner contacted them and they visited to understand the situation. The shop owner had owned this dry cleaning equipment for more than two years. During inspection, they found that the owner had replaced the bearing herself and had not maintained the equipment properly. Normally, the equipment requires maintenance once a year.
The manufacturer said that bearing replacement requires professional handling. If not properly replaced, it is especially easy to cause oil leakage from the oil tank. Once the oil leaks and the temperature exceeds 60°C, it can ignite the leaked oil. Therefore, they hope the shop owner can resolve the matter through legal means. If they are found responsible, they will definitely bear the consequences.
