Can both self-service wash and send for "dry cleaning" at the store
Evening News: Shanghai's first community laundry store with composite functions opened on December 18. Customers can either use the in-store self-service washing and drying machines to wash clothes or hand over clothes that are inconvenient for self-washing to the staff. The supporting central factory will provide washing and cleaning services.
This composite laundry store is located on Shuangqiao Road in Pudong New Area, surrounded by residential communities such as Huagaoyuan. The store front is about 50 square meters. On one side of the store is the self-service washing area, equipped with four commercial washing machines and three dryers, offering 24-hour self-service. During the trial operation period, customers can use coins to operate these washing machines, completing washing and drying a set of clothes in about an hour. After the market acceptance improves, the store will launch membership cards, allowing self-service washing by swiping the card.
For items like leather goods that are inconvenient for self-service washing, customers can directly hand them to the staff. These items will be sent to the central laundry factory for professional washing. The store manager Liu Gang explained that compared to sending clothes out for washing, using self-service washing machines is relatively cheaper. "For example, washing a down jacket at the laundry store costs about 30 yuan. But using a 10-kilogram self-service washing machine can wash two or three pieces at once, and including the drying process, the cost per piece is under 10 yuan."
Regarding whether residents will accept the self-service washing machines in the composite laundry store, Pan Wei, Executive Deputy Director and Secretary-General of the China Commercial Federation's Laundry Professional Committee, analyzed that self-service washing machines have been introduced domestically for some time, but their development has been slow due to consumption habits and other factors. Domestic consumers consider hygiene issues of public washing machines and are accustomed to using their own washing machines at home. However, Pan Wei believes that with the accelerated pace of life in big cities, the self-service laundry market still has certain development prospects. Currently, self-service washing machines are already quite common in universities.
