Every morning, opening the window to breathe fresh air has become a luxury for Uncle He and his family living in the first team of Dongsheng Guanlan Village. About five years ago, a laundry factory was built in Dongsheng Guanlan Village, just over ten meters from Uncle He's doorstep. Soon after, a chimney was erected at the laundry factory, and the smoke emitted daily has tormented the villagers of the first and second teams of Guanlan Village. Villagers dare not open their windows or hang clothes outside.
Yesterday, more than 50 villagers from the first and second teams of Guanlan Village, unable to endure any longer, went together to the entrance of the laundry factory named Hongrong Laundry Factory to demand an explanation and requested the factory to shut down. Relevant officials from the Environmental Protection Department of Dongsheng Town, Zhongshan City, arrived at the scene and ordered the factory to cease production. Currently, Hongrong Laundry Factory has stopped production and promised to dismantle the chimney within half a month and relocate within a month.
Villagers report:
Afraid to open windows fearing toxic smoke
Recently, some villagers reported to reporters that a laundry factory in their village has been emitting "toxic smoke" for five years and even discharging sewage, polluting the nearby river, causing ongoing distress to the villagers' lives.
Yesterday, reporters went to Dongsheng Guanlan Village, as pointed out by the informants, and found the involved enterprise, Zhongshan Dongsheng Hongrong Laundry Factory. The factory is small, located by the roadside near Changguan Road in the first team of Guanlan Village, only a few meters from the nearest villagers' homes.
According to Mr. He from the first team of Guanlan Village near the factory, the laundry factory has about a dozen workers, usually starting work around eight or nine in the morning, working more than ten hours a day. Once work starts, black and yellow smoke dust is emitted from the factory's tall chimney, spreading into the surrounding villagers' homes. "We dare not open windows or doors, nor hang clothes outside; if we're not careful, the clothes will turn black," said Mr. He.
Nearby villagers complained to reporters: not only does the smoke dust from the factory make people afraid to open windows and doors, but the sewage discharged by the factory has also polluted the nearby river.
What worries the villagers even more is: "Could the smoke dust emitted by the laundry factory be toxic?" "The smoke smells bad, and smelling it for a long time makes people dizzy. Over time, it will definitely harm our health," said Mr. He.

The factory manager also promised the villagers that the factory would be relocated.
Yesterday afternoon, reporters returned to Hongrong Laundry Factory and found that the factory had stopped work. The entire factory was silent, with only two or three workers sitting and chatting at the factory gate.
After more than ten minutes, reporters saw a large truck parked at the main gate of the laundry factory, with workers continuously loading goods onto the truck.
