In 2012, Beijing Rongchang Technology Service Co., Ltd. chose to cooperate with the Love Wardrobe's idle clothing "Clothes + Clothes = Love" Spring Warmth Project for its fifth clothing donation event, successfully held in Beijing from April 21 to May 3. During this event, Rongchang•Ilsa opened 20 stores to accept winter clothing donations from caring individuals and fully cooperated in sorting, disinfecting, and packaging the clothes.
"Love Wardrobe" is a charity initiative launched by CCTV Finance Channel hosts Wang Kai and Ma Hongtao, with participation from multiple hosts, directors, and reporters. Currently, Love Wardrobe mainly includes two projects: "Clothes + Clothes = Love* New Clothes Plan" and "Idle Clothes, Warmth for You and Me." Among them, the "Idle Clothes • Warmth for You and Me" project collects citizens' idle clothes to donate to those in need in impoverished areas.
As the first idle clothing event organized by Love Wardrobe, this activity mainly collected 80% new cotton-padded clothes, down jackets, and coats without damage or stains for the poor people in the Daliang Mountains of Sichuan. During the 13 days of the event, it received enthusiastic support and cooperation from many caring individuals, numerous charitable companies, and Rongchang employees. Statistics show that Rongchang Laundry and Ilsa stores received nearly 10,000 pieces of donated clothing. Among them, units such as the Second District Patrol Police Unit of Dongcheng Public Security Sub-bureau, Beijing Financial Assets Exchange, Industrial and Commercial Bank of China Financial Street Branch, Majia Fort Times Sail Building Party Branch, SPD Bank Majia Fort Branch, Agricultural Bank of China Majia Fort West Road Branch, Zhongwei Guojian, and China Enfi Engineering Technology Co., Ltd. organized clothing donations internally and delivered the sorted clothes to Rongchang stores.
To ensure the cleanliness and tidiness of the donated clothes, before sending them to impoverished areas, Rongchang conducted unified sorting and set up a dedicated disinfection room to disinfect the clothes with ultraviolet light and package them to prevent secondary contamination during transportation. In addition, for unwashed donated clothes, Rongchang Laundry and Ilsa stores charged a symbolic cleaning fee at one-tenth of the listed price. Due to the peak laundry season and the large number of donated clothes, every afternoon during the event, employees from various departments of Rongchang actively volunteered to organize sorting, shelving, disinfecting, and packaging work to ensure the clothes could be sent to impoverished areas as soon as possible. After nearly a month of screening and processing, the total number of qualified clothes sent by Rongchang Service to impoverished areas reached 4,652 pieces, with an additional 106 yuan collected from cash found inside the clothes.
Over the years, while accelerating its development, Rongchang Service has always regarded fulfilling corporate social responsibility as an important part of its growth and actively participated in various public welfare activities that give back to and benefit society. Donating youth sportswear to impoverished and disaster-stricken areas has been one of Rongchang Service's important charitable activities for many years. Since 2007, Rongchang Service has consecutively held five youth sportswear donation events, cumulatively donating more than 160,000 pieces of clothing to the western regions.
Regarding participation in the clothing donation activity, Rongchang's chairman Zhang Rongyao stated: "Our organization and participation in such activities are mainly based on the needs of impoverished areas and environmental protection considerations. In past youth sportswear donation events, we found that with the improvement of living standards, especially for teenagers who are cared for by several generations at home and growing rapidly, there are many idle clothes. Many clothes are only worn for one season before becoming too small. These clothes are too good to discard but useless to keep, becoming the most space-consuming items at home. Meanwhile, in many impoverished areas, many children lack properly fitting clothes and basic warm clothing. Therefore, the clothing donation activity not only makes full use of idle clothes but also conveys love.
Furthermore, clothing donation has environmental significance. According to relevant data, about 60 billion kilograms of fabric are produced globally each year, consuming one trillion kilowatt-hours of electricity and 90 trillion liters of water. For example, producing a 200-gram T-shirt requires 4 square meters of land, 2,000 liters of agricultural water, 50 liters of industrial processing water, 5 kilowatt-hours of electricity, 4 kilograms of steam, and 0.4 kilograms of chemicals, resulting in 10 kilograms of carbon dioxide emissions, which is 50 times the weight of the clothing. Therefore, recycling idle clothes is not only a process of passing on love but also effectively reduces energy consumption and protects the environment."
It is reported that to ensure the smooth progress of this event, Rongchang carefully selected stores located in communities with convenient transportation and concentrated customer flow, large supermarkets, and high-end office buildings. A relevant person in charge of Rongchang stated that the company gained valuable experience from this event and will appropriately adjust the number and locations of stores in future idle clothing activities to make donations more convenient for caring individuals.
In addition, Rongchang Service's luxury care institution, Luodi, will provide cleaning and maintenance for high-end dresses, famous leather goods, and handbags donated to the "Love Wardrobe" New Clothes Plan to ensure the cleanliness of these items.
