Xinhua Net Wenzhou, August 5 (Reporter Zhang Heping) Reporters learned from the Wenzhou Fire Department of Zhejiang Province that at about 16:50 on August 5, an explosion occurred at a family leather workshop located at No. 1528, Wenju West Road, Dianshang Village, Guoxi Town, Ouhai District, Wenzhou City, resulting in 3 deaths.
The Wenzhou Fire Department of Zhejiang Province reported that the fire area is about 200-300 square meters. According to factory staff and rescue personnel, 20-30 people were buried under the rubble of the collapsed building due to the explosion. So far, 15 people have been rescued and sent to the hospital for treatment. Fire and other departments stated that several people are seriously injured, and 3 have died.
After the accident, more than 100 firefighters from both the city and district levels in Wenzhou were dispatched, including 5 teams with 7 vehicles and 2 specialized teams with a total of 14 vehicles involved in the rescue. The armed police force sent over 90 personnel to the scene for rescue operations.
According to factory workers, the explosion occurred at the boiler inside the factory. As of the time of reporting, more than 300 people including firefighters, armed police, and local city, district, town, and village officials and residents are still working hard to rescue those trapped. The cause of the accident is under further investigation.
