Recently, an online message stating that 'machine washing down jackets may explode' has caused fear among many people. So, can down jackets be washed in a washing machine? The answer is: yes. But when washing down jackets, it must be done in a washing machine that has a down jacket washing symbol (program). Some washing machines are labeled 'Do not wash waterproof clothing, such as raincoats, down products, etc.', so down jackets cannot be washed in those machines. Therefore, be sure to read the washing machine's user manual before washing. Additionally, machine-washable down jackets mainly have a low down content or breathable fabric. Under the low-speed operation of the washing machine, the air pressure does not reach the maximum pressure the machine can withstand. When washing down jackets, first check the label; if it indicates 'Do not machine wash', do not wash it in a home washing machine. Secondly, down jackets should not be washed together with other clothing items and should be washed separately. It is recommended to put the down jacket in a loose mesh bag during the washing machine's spin-dry cycle to prevent the down jacket from excessively expanding instantly during high-speed rotation, which could cause an 'explosion'.
