If gum is stuck on clothes and cannot be removed, you can try the following methods.
Gasoline removal method:
This is the simplest method. Drip gasoline on the area where the gum is stuck. Gasoline can dissolve the gum.
After removal, you can wash the clothes according to the washing instructions to remove the gasoline smell from the clothes.
Cooling and freezing method:
Fold the part of the clothes with gum stuck outward. Put the clothes in a plastic bag, making sure the gum does not stick to the bag when placing it inside; otherwise, just place the clothes on top of the bag.
Seal the bag and put it in the refrigerator for several hours until it freezes solid. If you placed the clothes on the bag, make sure there is enough space so the clothes do not touch other items in the fridge, except the bag they are on.
Take the bag with the clothes out of the refrigerator, open the bag and take out the clothes. Use a blunt knife or a buttered knife to quickly peel the gum off the clothes (avoid piercing the clothes). Do not wait for the gum to thaw; it is easier to remove when solid. If the gum thaws before you remove it, put the clothes back in the fridge or use ice cubes.
Ironing removal method:
Place the side of the clothes with gum facing down on a piece of cardboard. Set the iron to medium temperature. Iron the clothes until the gum no longer sticks to the clothes but transfers to the cardboard.
Peanut butter removal method:
Apply peanut butter to all areas where gum is stuck. Remember, peanut butter may seep into the clothes and cause discoloration because it is oily. To prevent peanut butter stains, it is best to use a liquid detergent to remove the oil from the peanut butter on the clothes before washing. Apply as much peanut butter as possible on the gum, then gently scrape along the gum with a spatula until the gum and peanut butter stick together and no longer adhere to the clothes. Wait until the gum softens and loses its stickiness. Remove the gum from the clothes.
Laundry detergent removal method:
Soak the area of the clothes with gum in laundry detergent. Use a toothbrush to brush and break down the gum. Gently scrape off the gum with a spatula. Finally, use your fingernails to pick off any remaining gum on the clothes. Then wash the clothes in the washing machine.
Lighter fuel removal method:
Spray the back of the gum with the liquid fuel used for lighters (the canned liquid used to refill lighters). Turn the clothes over; the gum should be easy to scrape off. Before washing the clothes, rinse them thoroughly. Especially avoid using a dryer to handle flammable liquids.
Tip 1:
If only a small amount of gum is stuck on the clothes, try rubbing the clothes on ice cubes. To prevent the clothes from warming and melting the ice, place a piece of plastic (like a plastic bag) underneath. Once the gum is completely frozen, quickly scrape it off with a spatula.
Tip 2:
It is recommended to take it to a reputable laundry that offers professional cleaning, which will neither stain nor damage the clothes. Although it costs money, you get to keep your valuable clothes.
