The fading and dyeing properties of clothes are related to the dyeing technology.
Generally, most fuels easily dissolve in water, especially in soapy water, hot water, and alkaline water. Secondly, dyes tend to fade under sunlight when in a damp state. Furthermore, if the bond between the dye and the fiber texture is not strong enough, washing can also cause fading.
To prevent fabric from fading, the following methods can be used:
1. Wash frequently and gently;
2. When washing with soapy water or alkaline water, add some salt to the water (a small spoon per bucket of water);
3. Rinse immediately with clean water after washing, do not let soapy water or alkaline water soak or remain in the fabric for long;
4. Do not expose to sunlight for drying; dry in a cool, ventilated place.
Additionally, specific washing precautions vary depending on the type of dye used on the fabric:
Striped or standard cloth dyed directly with dye generally has poor color fastness. When washing, it is best to add a little salt to the water and soak the clothes in the solution for 10-15 minutes before washing to prevent or reduce fading.
Blue cloth dyed with sulfur dye usually has strong color fastness but poor abrasion resistance. Therefore, it is best to soak it in detergent for 15 minutes, gently rub by hand, and then rinse with clean water. Do not use a washboard to avoid the fabric fibers turning white.
Blue cloth dyed with oxidized dye generally has firm coloring and luster but tends to turn green when exposed to reducing gases like coal gas. Therefore, do not dry washed blue cloth near a stove. Various colored fabrics dyed with vaseline dye have relatively good color fastness, but the color usually adheres to the surface of the cotton yarn. Therefore, when wearing such colored fabrics, avoid friction to prevent the white cotton yarn from showing, which causes severe fading and whitening.
