The short autumn season passes in an instant, and housewives need to manage the winter clothes that have been stored away since spring and summer to prepare for the cold, while also washing and storing summer clothes for next year's heat. The editor interviewed Mr. Wu Jingmiao, an expert from the China Commercial Federation Laundry Committee, and Mr. Bruno, a product development expert from Procter & Gamble's Tide brand. Combining consumer questions, they introduce here how to use a time- and effort-saving three-step process during the autumn-winter season change to bring the whole family a warm and healthy winter.
1. Gentle care and storage of summer clothes
Many housewives like to rinse summer clothes again with some laundry detergent before storing them, allowing the clothes to experience the crisp autumn air before storage. This helps prevent wrinkles and thoroughly cleans residual stains on the collars and cuffs of commonly worn cotton summer clothes.
Lightweight summer clothes are mostly made of cotton or silk. Experts suggest consumers use only one-third of the usual amount of detergent for the final wash, simply rinsing to remove dust and prevent wrinkles while protecting the clothes. A very important point is to choose the right laundry product. For example, Tide washing powder contains ingredients that, with long-term use, can soften fibers, keeping clothes looking new for a long time. Its color protection factors also help preserve the color of the clothes. In addition, for white cotton summer clothes often worn, housewives pay special attention to residual stains on collars and cuffs and can choose products with added collar cleaner essence.
2. Mold removal and drying of autumn and winter clothes to prepare for a warm winter
After long storage through spring and summer, some autumn and winter clothes may become moldy or infested with mites due to poor storage. Wearing them without washing and drying can cause mite bites and even skin allergies, which is harmful to health. Laundry Committee expert Wu Jingmiao especially recommends that autumn and winter clothes must be rinsed and dried to provide the family with a warm and healthy winter.
For the most important down jackets, experts suggest soaking them in neutral cold water detergent for 30 minutes, lightly brushing dirty areas, then rinsing three to four times with warm water. After lightly squeezing out water, dry in a ventilated place, gently fluff the down, and avoid direct sunlight to prevent fading. Thick pure cotton or high-cotton-content clothes tend to pill and fade after repeated washing and wearing. Using Tide liquid detergent with color protection ingredients can prevent color fading of cotton clothes.
3. Choosing the right laundry products saves time and effort
Choosing the right laundry product can achieve twice the result with half the effort. Expert Wu suggests consumers select products based on their needs, as different detergents target different stains. For example, housewives often face removing oil stains, collar/cuff stains, and sock stains on family clothes, so they should choose products effective against these stains. Young white-collar workers may need products with stronger stain removal for coffee stains, skincare products, lipstick, sunscreen, and the like.
Mr. Bruno said in the interview that Tide introduces advanced European and American technology to China and is specially designed for the daily laundry needs of Chinese consumers, performing well in removing common household stains. In the "China Consumer Satisfaction Survey Report," Tide has lived up to expectations, achieving over 80% consumer satisfaction for three consecutive years, ranking alongside Ariel at the top of laundry powder consumer satisfaction for many years. Additionally, experts recommend that consumers, when choosing laundry products, should not only focus on basic stain removal but also on removing dull yellowing, brightening white clothes, maintaining vibrant colors, and long-lasting fragrance to better meet modern family laundry needs.
