There are always a few clothes in the wardrobe that turn yellow for some unknown reason. You might think they weren't washed properly and wash them again, but they remain the same. Let's look at some tips to solve these problems.
1. Clothes turn yellow mostly because the fluorescent agents weaken. To restore the clothes to bright white, try using "rice washing water + orange peel," which is simple and effective.
Keep the rice washing water or put orange peels into a pot with water and boil it. Then soak the yellowed clothes in it and rub them gently to easily restore whiteness. This method is not only simple but also does not cause skin side effects like commercial fluorescent whitening agents and does not damage the fabric. It's worth trying.
2. Yellow stains caused by sweat can be removed with ammonia water:
Sweat stains contain fatty sweat that easily solidifies in fabric fibers. When washing, add about 2 tablespoons of ammonia water, soak for a few minutes, rub gently, then rinse with clean water. Follow the usual washing procedure to remove yellow sweat stains!
3. Sometimes white or light-colored clothes turn yellow over time. The main cause of yellowing is the body's secreted oils, especially for polyester fabrics, which yellow more easily. Also, detergent residues left after washing (most obvious in triacetate fibers) can cause large yellow areas if not rinsed properly. There are ways to remove this, such as using a large amount of detergent when washing clothes that can withstand high-temperature water. A traditional method is to hang yellowed clothes under strong sunlight, but before that, spray fresh lemon juice on the yellowed areas, sprinkle some salt, and rub gently.
Warning: Handle with care and avoid using chlorine bleach. Fabrics like spandex elastic fibers, silk, and wool will yellow more when exposed to chlorine bleach.
4. If white clothes have been stored for a long time, they will turn yellow. The yellow stains mainly consist of proteins. Spinach, after boiling, releases components that can dissolve proteins.
(1) Buy a bunch of spinach, blanch it in boiling water, then remove the spinach and keep the boiling water for use.
(2) Rub the yellow-stained areas in the spinach water, then soak for 10 minutes.
(3) After soaking, take out the clothes and wash them normally. Done. The clothes are white again!
