It is best to use dry cleaning. If the effect is not obvious after dry cleaning, hand washing can be used. The difference between cashmere and wool: wool shrinks when exposed to high temperatures, while cashmere deforms and enlarges. Therefore, cashmere should be washed at low temperatures. Cashmere is a protein fiber, so avoid using detergents, washing powders, soaps, or shampoos containing enzymes or bleaching agents to prevent erosion and fading.
Washing Method
1. Soak the cashmere sweater in water at about 40°C with silk and wool detergent. Light-colored cashmere sweaters can be soaked for about 10 minutes, while dark-colored cashmere sweaters are best washed directly. Gently rub by hand during washing, rinse thoroughly with clean water, and finally treat with acetic acid water. You can also use a wool fabric softener for finishing by adding about 10 ml to warm water.
2. Jacquard or multicolored cashmere sweaters should not be soaked. Different colored cashmere sweaters should not be washed together to prevent color transfer. For heavily soiled areas, rub locally, and gently pat the rest. After rinsing with clean water, add about 10 ml to warm water to improve the hand feel.
3. Wrap the washed cashmere sweater in a large bath towel or children's towel, place it in the spin dryer of the washing machine to dehydrate, and lay flat to dry. Do not hang and expose to the sun to avoid deformation.
4. After drying, iron with warm air blowing. Avoid pulling hard to prevent the cashmere sweater from enlarging or deforming.
Organizing and Storing
1. Cashmere is a protein fiber and is easily moth-eaten. Before storing, no matter how many times it has been worn, it must be washed, dried, folded, and bagged with moth repellent added. Store in a ventilated and dry place. Avoid hanging to prevent deformation from hanging.
2. During the production of cashmere sweaters, to fully display the characteristics of cashmere, a felting process is set in the processing, which shrinks some fibers in the yarn and covers the surface of the cashmere sweater fabric, making it soft to the touch. If the nap is too small, the hand feel will be poor, so a layer of fine nap on the surface of the cashmere sweater is necessary. Under these conditions, because cashmere fibers are fine, highly curved, soft, and smooth, the surface fibers will entangle with each other and form balls when rubbed against the sweater. Generally, small pills on the surface can be removed with a pill remover or copper wire brush without affecting wear. Avoid pulling by hand to prevent fiber damage and holes. If holes or loose threads appear, use the spare yarn provided to have it repaired by the manufacturer.
