Pure cotton clothing can generally be divided into three main types: underwear and underpants, fleece tops and pants, and outerwear and trousers. Due to differences in structure and usage, their care and storage methods also vary.
Washing Methods
Underwear and underpants can be washed not only with soap but also with enzyme detergents. Enzyme detergents are effective in removing human secretions but must be thoroughly rinsed to prevent residual alkali from yellowing the fabric and irritating the skin. When washing pure cotton fleece tops and pants, apply even force; they can be machine washed. When drying, the fleece should face outward. Pure cotton outerwear and trousers are suitable for water washing.
Precautions
Sunlight can cause oxidation in cotton fabrics, making white clothes yellow and brittle. Some cotton dyes are especially sensitive to sunlight; excessive exposure can cause fading, especially for purple, blue, and pink colors, which require extra careful care. It is advisable to dry them inside out.
Organizing and Storing
Do not store clothes that are not completely dry to avoid mildew and deterioration. Place insect repellents in storage boxes or wardrobes to prevent moth damage. During storage, regularly check, ventilate, and air out the clothes.
When folding and storing pure cotton pile fabric clothing, avoid pressure. Clothes like velvet and corduroy will have their pile flattened if pressed for a long time. When storing such clothes, place them on upper shelves or hang them to prevent pile flattening, which affects appearance and wearability.
Pure cotton outerwear dyed with sulfur dyes, especially black ones, should not be stored for too long. They should be worn promptly because prolonged storage can make the fabric brittle, reduce fabric durability, and shorten the garment's lifespan.
