Thermal underwear is great when first worn at home, but the various technologies involved have made washing it somewhat challenging for consumers.
Various brands claim their products can be machine washed without reducing thermal performance. In fact, no authoritative organization has formally studied whether the thermal insulation of thermal underwear decreases after washing. However, regardless of the technology used, the thermal insulation of thermal underwear does decrease with more washes, though the degree of reduction varies. Therefore, here are some washing tips:
1. Thermal underwear is not like ordinary underwear. To maintain its technological thermal properties longer, especially for the elderly, it is advisable to have an extra set to relatively reduce the frequency of washing.
2. Many thermal underwear surfaces have small uneven bubbles that act as a layer of still air for insulation. Therefore, thermal underwear should not be ironed to avoid damaging this air layer.
3. It is best to hand wash thermal underwear. If using a washing machine, use the gentle cycle. You can choose a neutral detergent like Bangge, as the outer layer of thermal underwear is made of pure cotton, which is prone to shrinking. Choosing the right detergent is crucial. It is recommended not to spin dry after washing to some extent protect the inner structure of the thermal underwear.
