High-end genuine leather sofas are increasingly favored by consumers. A set of high-end, stylish genuine leather sofas placed at home is not only beautiful and elegant but also noble and graceful. However, these wonderful adjectives all have a time limit. Based on the author's experience in genuine leather sofa refurbishment and care, the higher the grade of the genuine leather sofa, the more delicate the leather is, and the more difficult the daily maintenance becomes. Therefore, the maintenance of high-end genuine leather sofas requires professional leather care technicians to regularly perform cleaning and maintenance. In addition, if a genuine leather sofa is old and has not been properly maintained, causing damage, severe dirt, or even peeling and fading, professional personnel must carry out a series of operations to repair and refurbish it. This article will elaborate in detail on the full set of processes for genuine leather sofa care. Moreover, there are many providers of genuine leather sofa care in the domestic market, and the leather chemicals used vary. The author has also tried many leather chemicals and will provide a brief analysis for reference.
First, the best chemical materials for genuine leather sofa maintenance and refurbishment are Italian imported water-based leather chemicals. Their characteristics are:
1. Water-based materials, harmless to the human body;
2. Difference from oil-based: forms a thin film but has high strength, strong abrasion resistance, and good elasticity; domestic oil-based materials form a thick film, which affects the grain surface effect and texture of the leather, have poor abrasion resistance, and easily cause peeling;
3. Imported materials use ultra-fine color paste with pure color and delicate texture; domestic color paste is dull and coarse-grained, etc.
Using domestic materials for genuine leather sofa care involves a simpler procedure, mainly for two reasons:
1. Domestic materials are generally oil-based. When used for leather post-care, several materials are mixed together. In fact, each material has different properties, and mixing affects the performance of the materials, greatly impacting the leather effect. Especially for high-end leather like aniline leather, using domestic materials almost means waiting for compensation?!
2. Domestic materials are basically sufficient for leather production, but relatively lacking in post-care, such as foaming agents, color developers, hand feel agents, etc. These are not present in domestic materials but are essential for post-care!
Truly professional genuine leather sofa and automotive leather seat maintenance requires at least 5 steps: cleaning, color development, color fixing, hand feel treatment, and waterproofing; truly professional maintenance and refurbishment require at least 8 steps: cleaning, damage repair, color adjustment, coloring, color development, color fixing, hand feel treatment, and waterproofing. Any process with fewer than 7 steps cannot be considered professional leather maintenance and refurbishment!
Genuine leather sofa and automotive leather seat maintenance and refurbishment process:
1. Cleaning: JB-C type leather special cleaner, powerful film remover
1. Ordinary dirt cleaning: use one part genuine leather cleaner mixed with 8-15 times hot water, with water temperature around 60 degrees Celsius. Use a soft brush for cleaning, paying attention to gentle pressure, small area, and fast speed.

2. Heavy dirt cleaning: use one part genuine leather cleaner mixed with 30-50% powerful film remover, can add two parts boiling water. Use a soft brush for scrubbing and cleaning, ensuring gentle pressure to avoid removing the base coating layer, small area, and fast speed.
2. Damage repair: cationic repair paste, anionic repair paste
1. Minor wear: repair with quick-drying repair paste, which is a fast film-forming material. Avoid applying to undamaged areas to prevent glossiness.
2. Severe wear: repair with slow-drying repair paste, which is a filling material. After application, wait for it to dry completely, then sand with 600-grit wet sandpaper. Be careful not to apply too much force to avoid sanding off the slow-drying putty.

3. Serious wear: repair with leather fibers plus glue to provide tensile resistance.
4. Hole repair: patch the missing leather area, then use slow-drying putty to repair the seams.
3. Sealing: general wear—sealant and strong adhesive mixed at a 3:1 ratio and sprayed
Severe wear—crack repair agent and strong adhesive mixed at a 3:1 ratio and sprayed.
4. Color adjustment: special resin for furniture leather, crack repair agent, strong adhesive, MD ultra-fine color paste, crosslinking agent (anti-dry and wet rubbing)
Mix one part color paste with about 4 parts resin (resin is a mixture of furniture leather special resin and crack repair agent at 3:1), add a small amount of strong adhesive, one part foaming agent, and 10 drops of crosslinking agent for color mixing. Note: add 10 drops of anti-crosslinking agent per 50 grams of mixed color.

5. Coloring: air pump, spray gun
Use a cross spraying method, avoid spraying too thick. For areas repaired with slow-drying repair paste, first apply one or two coats with a brush or sponge, dry, then lightly sand with water sandpaper, and then spray the overall color and let it dry thoroughly.

6. Color development: XZD color developer
If the gloss is dull after coloring, spray one coat of color developer to enhance color brightness. It also provides anti-stain effects and improves the hand feel of the leather surface.
7. Fixing: Special Fixative for Furniture Leather
Use the special fixative for furniture leather, applied by spraying in a thin layer. The main function of the fixative is to ensure that the color sprayed onto the leather can be permanently and firmly fixed on the leather. Therefore, after application, the treated leather needs to air dry naturally for 8-12 hours. During this period, avoid using or rubbing the colored leather as much as possible to achieve the best color fixation effect on the leather.
8. Hand Feel: MT-18 Silk Hand Feel Agent
After the fixative and other treatments are completely dry, lightly spray a layer of hand feel agent to give the leather a silky and delicate texture.
9. Waterproof: Waterproof and Anti-penetration Agent
Lightly spray the anti-penetration and waterproof agent, which has waterproof effects. When using, dilute one part of the agent with four parts of purified water. After spraying, it can enhance the leather surface's resistance to water and oily stains.
In summary, caring for genuine leather sofas is a relatively complex process. To truly master this technique or improve technical skills in this professional field, a considerable amount of practical operation is required. Only then can one accurately predict the care effects for different leather types and usage conditions, ensuring effective subsequent care.
