The "First China International Laundry Festival," founded in September 2009 by the China Commercial Federation Laundry Professional Committee, caused a great response in the international laundry industry, especially the successful holding of the "International Laundry Conference," which was highly praised by international peers attending the event. As one of the organizers of the international conference, the International Drycleaning Association (IDC) reported comprehensively on this conference in a special issue titled "Greetings from China." The following are translated excerpts of some paragraphs for colleagues:
The 2009 Beijing Conference has concluded, but the memories still linger in the minds of all participants. The few days of the conference concentrated on extensive information exchange, mutual cultural influence, enhanced friendship among international peers, and the establishment of new communication relationships. These were the highlights of this IDC conference.
The 2009 IDC event in Beijing was lively and rich, as can be seen from the provided photos. The success of this conference was thanks to the enthusiastic efforts of China and Japan working together to host this project. This conference was the largest since the founding of IDC.
China is a place with an overwhelming number. Ms. Wang Shuyuan, the chairperson of this conference, said in her speech: China has the world's largest laundry market. There are more than 250,000 standardized laundry enterprises or shops, with over 12.5 million people working in the industry, and an annual turnover exceeding 50 billion RMB. The laundry market here has huge development potential.
The conference provided simultaneous interpretation every day. Participants absorbed a lot of valuable information through communication. The speakers gave us an overview of the global laundry industry and offered their suggestions and opinions on future growth and progress.
The conference also issued a statement of special significance—the "Beijing Declaration," which pointed out the necessity and urgency for international laundry professionals to conduct international cooperation and exchange information through conferences, visits, and networks.
The Chinese organizers also specially produced a collection of conference speeches, which was distributed to all attendees. Most of this collection will be published on our IDC website, so those who did not attend can also obtain the information received by participants.
Another special highlight of the conference was visiting an exhibition of laundry equipment supply and laundry chain franchise services (the 10th China International Laundry Industry Exhibition). The exhibition also included the 6th National Drycleaning and Laundry Vocational Skills Competition. When we arrived, contestants from different regions of China were intensely competing in various events. The competition was held in one hall, divided into several areas: on one side, ironing workers were diligently completing the ironing of a garment; in another area, there was a stain removal competition; and in another area, all contestants sat at a table carefully repairing a damaged fabric... The contestants carried the reputation of their bosses and their own honor, dedicating themselves wholeheartedly to their work. The judges particularly emphasized details, and the judging criteria were very strict.
