At the request of some laundries, this answers the question about "How to iron dead creases on chemical fiber blended garments." It should be stated first that this issue belongs to basic washing knowledge. On the surface, the problem is presented to the ironing workers, but essentially, the root cause lies in the washing process.
This problem can be conditionally solved from the ironing aspect. In other words, not all garments with dead creases can be ironed flat; only some garments with less severe creases can be ironed flat. Another condition is that garments that can be ironed using a trough flat ironing machine or a smooth surface clamp machine can basically be temporarily restored. If hand ironing is used, an electric iron must be used, but the ironing temperature is relatively difficult to control.
The trough flat ironing machine solves this problem due to its high ironing temperature and strong pressure. When using a smooth surface clamp machine, the steam pressure should be maintained above 0.4Mpa, and the pressing time should be appropriately extended to ensure sufficient softening and reshaping of the fibers. Even so, after the next washing, most dead creases will reappear.
The fundamental solution is to eliminate the creases on the garment. The specific method is to put the creased garment back into the washing machine, with the load not exceeding half the machine's capacity to allow the garment to fully spread out. The water level should basically cover the load, and after steam heating, the liquid level will rise to the high level. If an electric heating washing machine is used, the water level should be directly filled to the high level. The detergent dosage should be one-third of the normal washing amount; the heating temperature should exceed the washing temperature when the creases appeared. For example, if the creases appeared at 70°C, the temperature should be raised to 75°C–80°C during treatment to soften and restore the creased areas.
During the entire process, the washing machine should keep running continuously without stopping. Once the temperature reaches the required level, maintain it for 15 minutes to soften the garment fibers and fully open the creases. Then proceed to cooling, which is also the key to successful treatment. Do not rush; the cooling speed should be slow. Each time cold water is added, the duration should not exceed 3 seconds. After adding cold water, run for 20 seconds, then drain for 1 second (for machines with a capacity of 50Kg or more, the running time should be appropriately extended). Repeat this cycle with unlimited water additions until the water temperature drops below 20°C. Then fully add cold water to three-quarters of the total liquid level, and then proceed to even distribution and dehydration. Finally, add water twice more to finish.
This cooling method is also applicable to the cooling treatment after high-temperature washing of chemical fiber blended garments. The characteristic of chemical fibers is similar to plastic; they soften and deform when heated. The centrifugal force during dehydration is strong and will press the softened fibers into dead creases. The large amount of cold water injected during water addition rapidly cools and sets the shape, thus forming annoying dead creases. Therefore, washing chemical fiber blended garments is mostly done at normal temperature to prevent dead creases.
