Chinese Defense Minister Liang Guanglie stated during talks with visiting Japanese Defense Minister Yasukazu Hamada in the first half of this year that "China is the only major power without an aircraft carrier, and China cannot remain without one forever." This statement was interpreted by overseas media as the Chinese government's first public announcement of an aircraft carrier construction plan. Why does China want to build aircraft carriers? From the perspective of the role and impact since entering the aircraft carrier era, the significance is likely far more complex than simply "China has vast maritime territory and heavy defense responsibilities."
Aircraft carriers are special national military entities. The long-range, short-range, strategic, tactical, aerospace, aviation, surface, and underwater offensive and defensive capabilities demonstrated by carrier strike groups have long surpassed the concept of fleet defense. Judging from their independent self-sufficiency, socialized institutions, and unique military social culture, it may be more accurate to call them militarized cities or national military entities.
Aircraft carriers are mobile territories. They use the homeland as a base and, through military cloning, generate batches of mobile territories, each with offensive and defensive strength comparable to the military power of a medium-sized country, and can exert a multiplying effect on military strength. Globally, it is precisely carrier groups that can freely operate outside common rules and successfully implement the national will of certain superpowers.
Aircraft carriers are relay platforms for the development of a nation's comprehensive strength. An aircraft carrier is a technological complex that almost covers all military and non-military scientific and technological fields of a country. Building an aircraft carrier can comprehensively stimulate a country's military technology level and national economic development, such as electronics and communications, automatic control, steel manufacturing, aerospace equipment, special materials, power manufacturing, and process equipment. Undeniably, it also builds its own comprehensive engineering relay platform, on which it is easier to stack and develop more advanced technologies.
An aircraft carrier is a capability. Three-quarters of the Earth's surface is covered by oceans, and so-called global strategy and global economy cannot exclude the oceans. The safety of marine scientific research, trade, and fisheries, as well as the protection, development, and processing of deep-sea resources, means that aircraft carriers no longer only represent military potential. Integrating military power with economy and productivity, and proactively undertaking more economic expansion responsibilities, the demands of economic and social development require aircraft carriers to have balancing capabilities in this interactive process.
An aircraft carrier is a concept. From its inception, the aircraft carrier was used as a long-range strike platform, a comprehensive long-range weapon projection system. In World War II and subsequent major military operations, aircraft carriers played extremely important roles. In the 21st century, the international military community has made various speculations about the future of aircraft carriers. However, the key issue is that different purposes lead to inevitably different judgments. Because an aircraft carrier also represents a concept: a huge mobile maritime platform and offensive and defensive weaponry mutually carrying spiritual and material resources, effectively allocated to achieve the maximum extension and maximization of national will and national interests!
Building aircraft carriers as a reference for corporate will and interests. Just like the relationship between a person's consciousness and behavior, a company's products and services are never simply a matter of material and form but the result of the interaction between corporate will and interests. The company's goal is to maximize capital gains. In fact, if we replace the earlier concept of building aircraft carriers with industry development and building enterprises, we find that in many ways they are very similar.
Building a corporate aircraft carrier to achieve the maximum extension and maximization of corporate will and interests, thereby realizing sustainable business operations; with an innovative concept, choosing a platform and carrier suitable for oneself, and effectively allocating resources is undoubtedly a test of corporate goals and capabilities in the current market economy environment.
The journal "China Laundry" is under the leadership of the Laundry and Dyeing Professional Committee of the China General Chamber of Commerce, bearing the responsibility of serving the laundry and dyeing industry, and has always been committed to building itself into the best and most effective platform and carrier for enterprises. We need aircraft carriers and look forward to the day when the Chinese laundry and dyeing industry has its own aircraft carrier fleet.
