According to the National Garment Standardization Technical Committee, starting from January 1, 2010, ten national garment standards including "Men's Suits and Overcoats," "Women's Suits and Overcoats," "Dress Pants," and "Ties" have been officially implemented. As a downstream industry of the garment sector, the laundry and dyeing service industry primarily serves consumers by cleaning a wide variety of garments that have been worn and used, as well as shared textiles. Providing quality laundry and dyeing services requires understanding and learning the latest national garment standards that have been promulgated and implemented.
Among the ten national standards, six are newly established standards, and four are revised standards. Among them, "Garment Rainproof Performance Requirements," "Technical Requirements for Coated Garments' Moisture Resistance," "Requirements and Test Methods for Anti-Static Performance of Workwear," "Woven Hot-Melt Adhesive Interlining," and "Woven Student Uniforms" are being published for the first time. The technical content of "Ties" has been revised and upgraded from an industry standard to a national standard.
The new national standards for "Men's Suits and Overcoats," "Women's Suits and Overcoats," "Dress Pants," and "Ties" clearly specify requirements for pH value, decomposable carcinogenic aromatic amine dyes, formaldehyde, and other indicators. As revised standards, "Men's Suits and Overcoats," "Women's Suits and Overcoats," and "Dress Pants" have added assessments for pH value, decomposable carcinogenic aromatic amine dyes, odors, dimensional change rate after washing, and fabric tear strength. Additionally, the new standards have modified the content related to appearance defects, assessment requirements for fabric splits, finished product quality defects, and single-piece appearance determination. They have also added assessment requirements for soap wash colorfastness, wet rubbing colorfastness, water colorfastness, and light colorfastness. The safety technical content of garment standards mainly follows the national standard "Basic Safety Technical Specification for National Textile Products." Garments are divided into three categories: A, B, and C. Category A is for infant products, B for products in direct contact with skin, and C for products not in direct contact with skin. The formaldehyde content limits for the three categories are no more than 20 mg/kg, 75 mg/kg, and 300 mg/kg respectively; the pH values are 4.0–7.5, 4.0–7.5, and 4.0–9.0 respectively; and no odors are allowed.
