Hermès, D&G, Dior, Gucci clothing often sells for thousands of yuan, but high prices do not necessarily mean good quality. The Beijing Municipal Administration for Market Regulation reported this morning on the inspection of clothing and footwear products in the circulation sector, with a total of 95 products failing the test. Among them, 66 products priced over a thousand yuan, including the brands mentioned above, accounted for nearly 70% of all unqualified products.
The Beijing Municipal Administration for Market Regulation reported this morning that based on consumer complaints and reports about clothing and footwear products, it conducted spot checks and inspections on clothing and footwear products in the city's circulation sector. This inspection involved clothing and footwear products sold by 92 distributors in the urban area. The entrusted inspection agency found a total of 95 products that did not meet national standards, including 63 clothing items and 32 footwear items. Among the unqualified products, 66 were priced over a thousand yuan, accounting for nearly 70% of all unqualified products.
81% of unqualified clothing priced over a thousand yuan
Among them, for clothing products alone, 81% of the unqualified clothing items in this inspection were priced over a thousand yuan. The inspection found 63 unqualified clothing items produced by 41 companies, including "Gucci (China) Trading Co., Ltd.", "Hermès (Shanghai) Trading Co., Ltd.", "Hugo Boss (Shanghai) Trading Co., Ltd.", and "Brioni (Shanghai) Trading Co., Ltd.". The main issues were color fastness, fiber content, and labeling not meeting standards or explicit instructions. Among them, a Gucci men's garment not only fades easily but also pills; Hermès men's knit pullover, Fendi women's dress, Dior and D&G tops had fiber content issues.
In addition, 22 unqualified down clothing products were found in this inspection. Among them, 16 products failed down testing, with nearly half of the unqualified items related to down content and filling amount. Products from big brands such as Theory and MICHAEL KORS also had the same problems.
The Beijing Municipal Administration for Market Regulation stated that down content and filling amount are two important indicators for down clothing, directly related to the warmth performance of down garments. Since down is inside the lining layer of down clothing, unless destructive sampling is used, consumers find it difficult to detect quality issues of down during purchase and use.
Among footwear products, 32 unqualified products were produced by 28 manufacturers including "Hongsheng Footwear Co., Ltd.", "Jimmy Zhou (Shanghai) Trading Co., Ltd.", and "Lizhe Trading (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. (distributor)". Among the unqualified products, those priced over a thousand yuan accounted for 47% of all unqualified products. The main issues found in this inspection were labeling, sensory quality, sole-to-upper adhesion strength, and flex resistance of the heel counter. Notably, well-known women's shoe brands Nine West and Jimmy Choo had products with poor sensory quality and were prone to glue separation.
51 cases of unqualified products have been filed
A relevant person from the Beijing Municipal Administration for Market Regulation stated that the inspection found serious quality issues with mid-to-high-end clothing and footwear products sold in the market. When purchasing products, consumers should pay attention not only to brands and styles but also to appearance quality, odors, and any visible defects.
Additionally, within a period after purchasing a product, try to keep all related documents, including purchase receipts, tags, or instructions. These not only guide product maintenance but also serve as important evidence in case of quality disputes.
Regarding the unqualified products found in this inspection, the Municipal Administration for Market Regulation has handled them according to the "Product Quality Law" and other relevant regulations. It requires manufacturers and related distributors of unqualified products to actively take measures to prevent unqualified products from re-entering the city's market in accordance with the Consumer Rights Protection Law and other laws and regulations; to trace the source of unqualified products, strictly investigate purchase and sales channels, and effectively protect consumers' legitimate rights and interests. So far, 51 cases have been filed and are under investigation.
