★ A new profession has been added to the laundry and dyeing industry: "Leather Care Specialist" was recently approved.
The newly established "Leather Care Specialist" profession, applied for by our committee to the state, was approved by the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security after review, expert evaluation, and a defense meeting where our association presented. The Ministry approved its establishment on 2008 Year 11 Month 30 Day.
The "Leather Care Specialist" refers to professionals engaged in cleaning, maintenance, and repair of leather clothing, leather goods, leather shoes, and fur clothing. Previously, leather clothing care was included under the "Laundry Specialist" profession, which generally refers to personnel cleaning and finishing textile clothing. Since textile and leather materials differ in nature, their cleaning and maintenance methods, materials, and tools are different. Separating leather care from the "Laundry Specialist" profession and establishing the new "Leather Care Specialist" profession standardizes industry development and promotes the standardization and specialization of leather care, which is an inevitable trend.
Currently, several related tasks of our committee are also underway: 1 ) Establishing a leather care subordinate organization under the Laundry and Dyeing Professional Committee; 2 ) Developing standards and training materials for the new occupation; 3 ) Setting up training institutions for the "Leather Care Specialist".

★ Laundry and Dyeing Committee participated in the Ministry of Commerce's statistical work symposium.
The main spirit of the meeting emphasized the importance of statistical work in the trade service industry. Deputy Director Wang of the Trade Service Management Department mentioned: According to the Ministry of Commerce's estimates, the trade service industry contributes 30 % to the tertiary industry of the national economy, while the return rate to enterprises and individuals is only 9 %; therefore, it is necessary to increase investment and improve treatment through adjustments in national industrial policies (such as taxation).
Deputy Director Wang proposed three major tasks in the near future: first, to establish a statistical framework; second, to connect with statistical results from other departments; third, to strive for support to establish systems. He also proposed establishing two major systems: first, to align with the current national statistical work and establish a statistical survey system for the commercial trade service industry; second, to cooperate with associations and use association members as a model to establish a survey system for industry structure changes.
The Laundry and Dyeing Committee emphasized in the report:
The Laundry and Dyeing Committee supports the establishment of a statistical system and the development of statistical work. To this end, first, it submitted a statistical work plan for the laundry and dyeing industry according to the requirements of the Ministry of Commerce; second, 08 a similar statistical survey was conducted in the industry in the first half of the year; third, it is currently cooperating with a statistical agency to conduct special survey statistics in some enterprises.
Statistical work is characterized by being tedious, extensive, and highly professional. The laundry and dyeing industry has many points and a wide scope. Without strong organization, professionally responsible personnel, and necessary work funding, it is difficult to complete the work relying solely on enthusiasm.
Statistics require completeness and accuracy of results. Associations are all self-financed. Under the premise of cost-sharing according to demand, carrying out statistical work through government service procurement is far from enough. To do a good job in statistics, the commerce department should effectively increase investment and provide more support to associations.
The meeting required each association to submit 09 Year 2 monthly reports 08 annual statistical results, 12 and a meeting will be held in the month to arrange the start of baseline statistical work.
