Preface
Industry associations, as social intermediary organizations serving, consulting, communicating, supervising, ensuring fairness, self-discipline, and coordinating between the government and enterprises, as well as between product producers and business operators, have become an important bridge and link connecting government and enterprise communication. During the China Laundry Industry Conference, Director Pan Wei of the China Laundry Committee was interviewed by "China Laundry," reviewing the work and efforts carried out since the committee's establishment 15 years ago, and offering new prospects for industry associations' participation in industry development.
Reporter: Over the 15 years since the establishment of the China Laundry Committee, you have witnessed its growth and development. Could you provide a brief review and evaluate the efforts the committee has made for industry development?
Director Pan: Over the 15 years since the China Laundry Committee was established, it has been working for the industry. Although many things were not done perfectly, our efforts have never stopped. From the perspective of the committee's development, focusing on industry services, we have mainly done the following:
First is the formulation and promotion of industry standards. As the saying goes, without rules, nothing can be accomplished. Although the industry is traditional, it must develop alongside modernization and requires regulation. Without standards, the industry cannot develop healthily.
Second is the cultivation and recommendation of talent. For the laundry and dyeing industry, there are professional technical talents in laundry and dyeing, and management talents. I actually pay more attention to management talents because, for the modernization of the industry, without good management talents, it is impossible to realize and keep up with the trends of the times.
Third is the strengthening of awareness. Awareness can be said to cover the comprehensive development of the industry. Here it refers to the modern awareness of enterprise development, mainly the awareness of making enterprises stronger, better, and more refined.
Over the years, we have mainly focused on these aspects, conducting a large amount of work including overseas inspections, hosting high-level forums, large exhibitions, and cultivating modern awareness of enterprise development. Our goal or slogan is "Gather the most advanced concepts and technologies of the global laundry industry to make our homeland's sky bluer, water clearer, and clothes cleaner."
Reporter: Now that industry development is becoming more standardized and local industry associations are playing active roles, what important role do you think industry associations play in promoting industry development, and how should regional cooperation be promoted to serve the overall development situation?
Director Pan: Industry associations can play a good leading role in industry development. They are assistants to the government and a bridge connecting the government and the laundry industry. Although China's laundry industry associations developed relatively late, their role has gradually become prominent in recent years, playing a positive role in industry self-discipline and regulation.
Industry associations also need to develop, but ultimately, associations are social organizations and cannot replace government functional departments. They can only serve as a bridge between the government and enterprises, with more roles in guidance and facilitation.
Regarding regional cooperation, associations can play a role in regional coordination and consultation, and also help guide and support industry development. In terms of regional economic development layout, the laundry industry, as an important part of the life service industry, is also an indispensable part of urban functions.
If the government does not include laundry services in regional life layouts, problems will arise. For example, the continuous relocation of large-scale laundry factories without suitable places to settle; laundry shops not included in residential community construction plans. Without relevant planning, their added value or profits cannot be realized, and some factories or laundry shops cannot afford rent, limiting development. Both regions and communities should pay attention and make proper plans.
Reporter: This year is the first time the two exhibitions are held together. What outstanding changes do you think there are compared to previous years?
Director Pan: This year is the first joint exhibition of the two shows, which the whole industry has been looking forward to. We hope the two exhibitions complement each other's advantages, have a larger scale, and richer content. We have done a lot of work around cooperation for the exhibition. I think the most prominent changes compared to the two independent exhibitions in the past are a larger scale and higher quality.
Reporter: With the continuous progress and growth of the industry, what do you think should be the focus and development direction of the China Laundry Committee's future work?
Director Pan: As a national industry association, the guiding role of the China Laundry Committee in the industry has become increasingly obvious through our efforts over the years, which I am very proud of. We have been working hard and continuously innovating. Our future work focus will be on standard construction. The promotion and publicity of standards should also be more solid. Secondly, talent work, including talent cultivation and selection, skills training, leadership training, and more new work will be carried out.
All these tasks require actively playing the role of industry associations as a bridge between the industry and the government, making the government highly value enterprise development and progress; enabling the association to be a good advisor to the government, providing more consultation and valuable information; better promoting the modernization and development of enterprises. This includes strengthening our industry journals and the construction of new industry media, further improving various industry communication channels.
