"Liyuan Style" Launches a New Trend in Qipao Wearing

If you follow fashion, you must have noticed that in 2013, China's "First Lady" Peng Liyuan was included in the global best-dressed list of the American magazine "Vanity Fair," conquering the world with her unique "Chinese style." Seventy years ago, Soong Mei-ling was also on this list. In the cycle of fashion, Peng Liyuan presented the world with a new image of Chinese women through her elegant, exquisite, noble, and appropriate fashion sense. This is probably why "Vanity Fair" favored Liyuan Style over the American "First Lady" Michelle Obama and French President Hollande's girlfriend Valérie.

The selected list covered a wide range of industries and social classes, including designers, models, writers, lawyers, musicians, as well as royalty, first ladies, and Russian tycoons. Kate, the Duchess who recently had a baby, was again selected as the cover figure in the September issue last year. Designers included the spicy Victoria Beckham, models like Stella Tennant, and some almost forgotten figures such as the overage model Carmen and star Poppy Moss were also included.
Peng Liyuan once again showcased "Liyuan Style." On her Southeast Asia trip, she wore elegant and graceful qipao. The small blazer was not only worn multiple ways to practice thrift but also mixed with Southeast Asian style long skirts, truly fashionable and modern. She skillfully handled various gentle and grand Chinese-style garments.
Improved Qipao: Majestic and Noble, Peng Liyuan's Old Fashion with New Chic

Solemn entrance at the APEC meeting
Qipao Style, high-end, grand, and classy. It not only showcases the dignified figure of the nation's mother but also highlights Chinese characteristics well. The single-button dress similar to a Zhongshan suit is sturdy and neutral in texture, paired with light makeup and a high bun, dignified and commanding, representing the country's dignity, rare and precious.

Peng Liyuan appeared in a wine-red long dress paired with a white long coat. Xi Jinping's tie also correspondingly changed to a red tone. The slim-cut wine-red qipao beautifully displayed Peng Liyuan's charming figure, while the white long coat paired with wine-red was soft and natural. Nude-colored high heels completed the look with a strong sense of fashion.

On October 4th, meeting with Malaysia's Yang di-Pertuan Agong at the National Palace of Malaysia
Meeting Malaysia's Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Peng Liyuan chose a black Chinese-style stand-collar long dress, draped with a pink embroidered scarf, solemn yet gentle. The woolen Beijing-style qipao skirt had a strong three-dimensional feel, elongating the overall figure. The semi-circular collar was unique and solemn. The bright embroidered scarf brought a touch of lightness and liveliness to the plain black, while still being elegant and noble, with extraordinary temperament.

Although blue-gray lacks the spirit of black, the crispness of white, and the brilliance of red, it is distinctive. The small round collar is very distinctive, the white double-button turned-up cuffs are playful and cute, and the one-piece design does not lose the necessary grandeur and solemnity. It makes Peng Liyuan look vibrant and impressive.

China's First Lady Practices Thrift by Wearing One Outfit Multiple Ways

Small blazer paired with different long skirts — elegant and grand
On October 2nd, President Xi Jinping and his wife arrived in Jakarta, Indonesia.
Right after getting off the plane, Peng Liyuan's stylish look captivated everyone: a white back-collar small blazer, simple and elegant, dignified and slim-fitting, perfectly suitable for her first appearance. Paired with a brown base printed ethnic long skirt, the deep and light combination was not jarring but rather commanding. Elegance and grandeur all in place.

During the Indonesia trip, the same top was paired with different wrap skirts: a floral print brown silk skirt, a ochre diamond-patterned silk skirt, and a red brocade skirt embroidered with floral vine patterns. The top paired with a wrap skirt is a traditional Southeast Asian dressing style, showing respect as a visitor.

The same white small blazer paired with a printed light purple floor-length skirt instantly exudes a noble lady vibe! The overall light feeling is comfortable and elegant, and the simple image of the First Lady deeply impresses people. Without heavy makeup or untidy embellishments, simplicity and calmness reveal her true colors.

On October 7th, in Gianyar, Bali, Indonesia, visiting Bali Safari and Marine Park
Wearing the same printed light purple floor-length skirt, Peng Liyuan appeared stunning in a red stand-collar shirt. The entire look was dignified and exquisite, festive yet maintaining the First Lady's style. Annie greeted Peng Liyuan at the entrance and personally tied the Indonesian traditional garment "sarong" on her to show friendship. Peng Liyuan also took photos and chatted with spouses of other APEC economic leaders.

Attending the event, Peng Liyuan made a glamorous appearance in a performance-like outfit, instantly capturing everyone's attention. The satin-style bright red dress was vivid and lively, full of bounce, paired with a sheer asymmetrical overlay that was sharp and three-dimensional, making her look full of energy and spirit.

Bali Island, first appearance at APEC
For the first appearance at APEC, elegance and grace were important. Peng Liyuan wore a Chinese-style white suit, as gorgeous and ethereal as silk, paired with dark green wide-leg pants, full of fashion sense. The dark green corsage at the collar echoed the color of the pants, and the light makeup highlighted a radiant complexion. Clearly, the two were spirited and refreshed on this trip!

Laying a wreath at the Kalibata National Heroes Monument in Jakarta, the capital of Indonesia
President Xi Jinping and his wife were invited to visit the Kalibata National Heroes Monument in Jakarta, the capital of Indonesia. Such a grand and solemn visit required a poised and appropriate outfit. President Xi's consistent black suit was formal enough, while Mrs. Xi's gray waist-fitted neutral jacket was very elegant. The floral blouse underneath brightened the heavy atmosphere, adding a touch of charm to the chilly autumn days.
Ethnic style "stands out"

October 7, welcome dinner for the leaders and spouses of APEC member economies
On October 7, Xi Jinping and his wife Peng Liyuan attended a welcome dinner hosted by Indonesian President Susilo and his wife for the leaders and spouses of the 21st APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting in Bali, Indonesia. Peng Liyuan appeared grandly in a blue and white printed dress, with a navy blue cape-like coat that was steady and appropriate. The white belt added a pop of contrast to the dark colors and nicely accentuated her figure, truly the finishing touch.

European style also "stands out"

October 3, President Xi Jinping and his wife arrived in Kuala Lumpur
Also a first appearance, Peng Liyuan chose a blue and white porcelain-style Western suit. Compared to her appearance in Jakarta, Indonesia, she looked like a different person, but her dignified and graceful style remained unchanged. Without the floor-length dress or ethnic style, even the Western suit was perfectly interpreted by Peng Liyuan. The light blue printed blazer gave the lake-blue knee-length skirt a mature charm.

Liyuan Style Elegant understatement

In the eyes of foreign media, Liyuan Style has a unique charm with Chinese characteristics. Not luxurious, not flashy, fashion and simplicity are perfectly matched. The simple and grand style is Peng Liyuan's favorite way of dressing. Using waist cinching and scarves is her unique trick to highlight her temperament. The exquisite embroidery showcasing Chinese style deeply impresses international fashion and also deeply impresses Hannah.

Perhaps all the goodwill began with Peng Liyuan's public appearances during visits to four countries: navy blue wool coat, light blue scarf, pearl earrings, a preference for fashionable suits and simple practical handbags... This is a Chinese-style look, revealing an elegant understatement, and it is precisely this elegant understatement that established her status as a fashion icon. Moreover, this time she and President Xi wore a pair of black and blue "couple outfits," which from another perspective is also a romantic expression.

Made in China Not inferior to foreign luxury brands
Every time Peng Liyuan is interviewed, she pays great attention to her dressing taste but never chooses luxury brands. Instead, she spares no effort to promote "Made in China" globally. This can be seen from the bags carried: Queen Rania of Jordan chose a TOD’S handbag, former French First Lady Bruni chose Christian Dior, South Korea's First Lady Kim Yoon-ok chose Hermès, while China's First Lady Peng Liyuan did not wear any luxury brand but chose the Guangzhou brand EXCEPTION. The essence of Liyuan Style is: Made in China, not inferior to foreign luxury brands.

China's new business card Peng Liyuan

Peng Liyuan's all-Chinese brand look from head to toe became an instant hit: Guangzhou's EXCEPTION, and the jewelry and pearls she wore produced in Zhujishan Lake, caused a buying frenzy domestically. People have luxury brands, I have domestic products. In this regard, Peng Liyuan's influence as a fashion icon is truly not inferior to any selected by Vanity Fair.

From her previous brilliant and grand stage presence to the elegant and dignified First Lady, every appearance and turn of Peng Liyuan represents the image of China's "First Lady" and seems to showcase the fashion and values of a typical contemporary Chinese woman. Her charm injects softness and freshness into the cold world of politics, something Soong Mei-ling also achieved 70 years ago. Setting aside worship of foreign things and blind admiration of luxury brands, in the cycle of fashion, Peng Liyuan represents millions of Chinese women with an elegant, refined, noble, and appropriate fashion sense, presenting the world with a new business card of Chinese women.
