When you wash your face with a white towel in a hotel, can you imagine that it once tumbled in the washing machine together with hospital patient clothes and blood-stained bed sheets? Our hotline 96258 received a citizen's report that a ruthless laundry company in Chunhua Town, Changsha County, mixes bed sheets from hospitals and hotels together for washing, mixing stains and bloodstains all together...
For several consecutive days, reporters went undercover inside the factory and tracked the company's delivery trucks, discovering that the company's blood-stained bed sheet laundry business actually comes from a provincial hospital. Currently, the industry and commerce department has intervened to investigate.
[Undercover Investigation]
Blood-stained patient clothes washed together with hotel bed sheets
On the morning of May 11, guided by the informant, the reporter arrived at Changsha Yongxin Laundry Company in Longwangmiao Village, Chunhua Town, Changsha County. Before entering the factory gate, the roar of machines could be heard inside. The reporter claimed to be a hotel manager needing outsourced laundry services.
The factory was dimly lit. After entering, the reporter saw dozens of square meters of the factory floor scattered with packed bed sheets. The dusty windowsills were covered with cobwebs, and spiders crawled on towels and bed sheets on the tables. Seven machines were running vigorously but had mold spots. Several staff were shaking bed sheets on a large table, and many towels and bed sheets were thrown in blue plastic bins, making it unclear if they had been cleaned.
The laundry solvents used by the company were all stored in a large white barrel, which was filthy and placed casually beside the washing machines. The area around the barrel was full of sewage and waste. Next to the factory was a small room piled with discarded wires, iron barrels, and many unidentified bagged powders scattered on the floor.
Upon careful observation, the reporter found a wardrobe covered with white cloth in a corner of the factory. Underneath, several blue and white striped fabrics were visible. Lifting the cloth revealed the wardrobe was full of blood-stained patient clothes and white fabrics, with the name of a well-known hospital clearly printed on the white fabrics. The washing machines in operation also contained the same striped fabrics, tumbling together with hotel bed sheets in the same machine.

Delivery truck enters provincial hospital
Seeing the reporter had business to discuss, the company's person in charge, Long Xiaohui, told the reporter that the company currently handles laundry for 10 hotels, with over 200 bed sheets from Panpan Road and Dongda Hotel delivered daily. When the reporter asked about the "blood-stained bed sheets from the provincial hospital also being washed here," Long quickly defended, "We don't wash hospital bed sheets; it's absolutely clean."
To verify whether the company's business involved hospitals, the reporter staked out outside the factory for several days, recording the factory's work patterns. Every morning and noon, the factory dispatched an Iveco and a Jinbei vehicle. The reporter noticed these vehicles speeding, running red lights, and even covering their license plates.
After several chases, the reporter found that on Sanyi Avenue, the company first loaded packed fabrics from Xingang Hotel and Xingtian Chain Hotel into the vehicle. Finally, the delivery truck arrived at the provincial hospital...
On May 13, the reporter reported the situation to the Chunhua Town Industry and Commerce Office in Changsha County. Director Huang Gang and law enforcement officers rushed to the laundry company. During the on-site investigation, all blood-stained patient clothes and fabrics had disappeared, leaving only a few folded beige cloths on the lower shelf of the wardrobe, labeled "Provincial Hospital."
"These are not ours; they are from other hospitals that lost the contract and asked us to help wash them," said Long Xiaohui. When the reporter showed undercover photos, the company changed the story, claiming the blood-stained bed sheets were from the Mawangdui Sanatorium. However, staff at Mawangdui Sanatorium stated, "The sanatorium's bed sheets and patient clothes are clearly labeled, so how could there be fabrics printed with other hospitals' names?"
Industry and Commerce Investigation
Laundry detergent hydrogen peroxide
All are unqualified products
After on-site investigation, staff from the Chunhua Town Industry and Commerce Office told the reporter that the laundry company has no qualification to wash medical institution items and has many violations in operation and management.
"The detergents and hydrogen peroxide used by the company are all unqualified products. There are also some hazardous chemicals, such as insurance powder (sodium dithionite) and flake sodium hydroxide, which are strongly alkaline chemicals and can easily catch fire when in contact with water," said the industry and commerce staff. The factory manager, however, said, "We have experience with this; there won't be any problems."
Currently, the industry and commerce department is conducting further investigations.
Hospital Response
No issues found during inspection
The company washes hotel items together
Director Wu of the logistics service department of the involved hospital said the hospital does have a cooperative relationship with Changsha Yongxin Laundry Company. The hospital had sent personnel to inspect the factory and did not find that the company washed hotel items simultaneously.
At the same time, Director Wu admitted that the hospital outsources all laundry services, and Yongxin Company is one of the laundry companies. Laundry services for infectious disease departments and other departments are outsourced to another laundry company.
Lawyer's Opinion
The laundry company is engaged in illegal business
Li Yi from Hunan Tiandiren Law Firm explained that according to the relevant regulations of health permits, laundry services in special industries must be provided by qualified institutions. If the laundry company cannot provide the qualification to wash for medical institutions, it is considered illegal business.
