On August 29, 2016, the final of the Clothing Ironing event of the Beijing Commercial Service Industry Skills Competition was held at the headquarters of Funait in Beijing. Thirty contestants from across the city who achieved excellent results in the preliminary round participated in the final. Pan Fuzeng, President of the Beijing Laundry and Dyeing Industry Association, served as the chief competition commander. Secretary-General Gao Yunli, Deputy Secretary-General Wang Shouming, and national-level judges Jia Runze, Jiang Xiling, Ren Shucheng, and other experts participated in organizing the competition.
According to the introduction, the 2016 Beijing Commercial Service Industry Skills Competition final for the Clothing Ironing event consisted of two parts: a theoretical exam and a practical assessment. Both the competition rules and the difficulty of the assessment set higher requirements than previous years. Liu Huiqin, Director of the Beijing Laundry Association Office, explained that the theoretical exam was composed of two papers, A and B, requiring contestants to answer 40 questions on ironing principles within 20 minutes, which posed high demands on their theoretical knowledge. The practical exam required contestants to iron a set of washed pure wool suits within 40 minutes. National-level judge Jia Runze said that the washed wool suits were severely deformed and prone to bubbling and shrinking, so ironing these garments required contestants to have excellent practical skills. At the competition site, we saw judges and staff clearly dividing timing and service duties, with every contestant serious and meticulous, creating a tense yet orderly competition atmosphere.
Pan Fuzeng, the chief competition commander and President of the Beijing Laundry and Dyeing Industry Association, introduced that Beijing has held vocational skills competitions for many consecutive years, selecting widely applicable and comparable events such as clothing ironing and stain removal, which have received active participation from practitioners across the city. Through years of training via competitions, the overall quality of practitioners has been comprehensively improved. At last year's 9th National Laundry and Dyeing Industry Vocational Skills Competition, contestants sent by the Beijing Association won first place in the stain removal event, which was an encouragement to the laundry workers of Beijing. Next year's 10th National Laundry and Dyeing Industry Vocational Skills Competition will be held in Beijing. As the host association, the Beijing Laundry and Dyeing Industry Association will fully cooperate and actively participate in the preparation work, and will send outstanding contestants to compete, striving to achieve even better results in next year's national competition.
