Shanghai Laundry and Dyeing Industry Association
The Shanghai Laundry and Dyeing Industry Association was established in 1988. SHANGHAI TRADE ASSOCIATION OF LAUNDERING AND DYEING PROFESSION is a social organization voluntarily formed by enterprises and institutions related to the laundry and dyeing industry in Shanghai. Currently, it has more than 90 member units, with over 2,000 laundry and dyeing outlets, including 17 state-owned, 11 Sino-foreign joint ventures, 57 private, and 5 wholly foreign-owned enterprises. The fifth council of the Shanghai Association consists of 30 directors. The association has set up a secretariat to handle daily work and has established three specialized committees for hotels, dry cleaning, and linen washing. The industry’s business supervisory unit is the Shanghai Municipal Commission of Commerce, and the registration management authority is the Shanghai Social Organization Administration Bureau. The Shanghai Association also accepts business guidance and supervision from both the Shanghai Municipal Commission of Commerce and the Shanghai Social Organization Administration Bureau.
The Shanghai laundry and dyeing industry provides washing services for the general public as well as for hotels, restaurants, hospitals, airports, and other units. Since the reform and opening up, with the improvement of living standards, going to laundry shops has become a social demand. The laundry industry has developed into a promising sunrise industry. The Shanghai laundry and dyeing market has rapidly developed, with the number of laundry outlets growing from 270 in 1995 to nearly 3,500 in 2009. In recent years, the structure of Shanghai's laundry and dyeing industry has changed, breaking the monopoly of state-owned and collective enterprises, and a large number of private, joint-stock, individual, Sino-foreign joint ventures, and wholly foreign-owned laundry and dyeing enterprises have emerged. Laundry and dyeing brands have also changed. Besides the old brands such as "Zhengzhang Industrial, Zhengzhang Laundry and Dyeing, Central, Jinlun, Laorisheng," a large number of sizable private enterprises have appeared, such as "Weilong, Jiefeng, Kabo, Lvhua," as well as Sino-foreign joint venture brands like "Sunshine, Haruya, Funait." Business models have also changed. Besides central factories and front-shop-back-factory models, chain operations have become more common, with brands like Zhengzhang, Xiangwang, Kabo, Funait, Lvhua, and Taijie operating as chains.
In recent years, the Shanghai Association has strengthened industry self-discipline, providing intermediary services, self-regulation management, business guidance, technical training, information release, industry statistics, exchange and learning, and consulting services for the laundry and dyeing industry. It has formulated industry regulations such as "Shanghai Laundry and Dyeing Industry Rules and Regulations," "Shanghai Laundry and Dyeing Service Standards," "Shanghai Laundry and Dyeing Quality Standards," "Shanghai Laundry and Dyeing Business Contract Format Clause Operation Specifications," and "Shanghai Laundry and Dyeing Industry Consumer Dispute Resolution Measures." It sincerely serves member enterprises by establishing a laundry expert appraisal team to conduct washing accident appraisals; organizing training classes on washing, ironing, glazing, and dry cleaning machine technology; arranging technical exchanges and study visits; recommending technical talents; regularly publishing "Shanghai Laundry and Dyeing Industry Information"; conducting industry statistics; providing consulting services on washing software and hardware; helping member enterprises solve problems; handling the application and issuance of truck driving permits; and acting as a bridge and link between the government and enterprises.
The purpose of the Shanghai Association: to wholeheartedly serve member enterprises, safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of enterprises, and promote the development of the laundry and dyeing industry.
