The year-on-year growth rate of total retail sales of consumer goods in October hit a 7-month high, the consumption growth rate in the first three quarters accelerated by 3 percentage points compared to the same period last year, and the contribution rate of consumption to GDP in the first three quarters has reached 55%... "In the past one or two years, we have done a lot of work to expand consumption and have achieved some results," said Chen Deming, a representative of the 18th National Congress and Minister of Commerce, in an interview with Chinese and foreign journalists invited by the 18th National Congress News Center. He stated that the next step for the Ministry of Commerce is to expand consumption in six areas: safe consumption, green consumption, service consumption, brand consumption, online consumption, and credit consumption.
First, expand safe consumption. Second, guide green consumption, including the recycling of renewable resources and the promotion of low-carbon products, encouraging the public to have a stronger preference for purchasing green and low-carbon products. Third, improve service consumption. Regarding the promotion of brand consumption, Chen Deming said that on one hand, support should be given to China's traditional excellent brands, such as some time-honored Chinese brands, helping them expand their markets. In addition, some new and outstanding brands have also emerged in international and domestic trade, which also need to expand consumption through brand development. On the other hand, expand the consumption of imported brands. There is a large market for foreign famous brands in China, but the current problem is that the prices of imported famous brands and "luxury goods" in China are much higher than abroad. China needs to reduce the prices of imported brands in the domestic market.
Online consumption has maintained rapid growth in recent years. In the first nine months of this year, online retail sales increased by more than 40% compared to the same period last year. However, Chen Deming pointed out that there are a very small number of irregular behaviors in online consumption. Therefore, the first priority is to make online consumption better and more reliable in providing services to everyone and to further regulate online sales behavior. In addition, credit consumption is also an area encouraged by the Ministry of Commerce.
