Subway stores surpass McDonald's

According to The Wall Street Journal, Subway sandwich chain has surpassed McDonald's to become the world's largest chain restaurant by number of outlets. By the end of last year, McDonald's had 32,737 restaurants worldwide, while Subway had 33,749 restaurants, increasing to 34,225 by February this year.
However, in terms of sales revenue, the publicly listed company McDonald's remains the global chain restaurant leader, with total revenue reaching 24 billion USD last year, while Subway's total revenue was only 15.2 billion USD, including 10.5 billion USD in sales in the United States. Currently, McDonald's has entered 117 countries, while Subway has branches in only 95 countries. Subway currently has 199 restaurants in China, and it is expected to increase to more than 500 by 2015.
