In January 2011, the retail sales of the nation's top 100 large retail enterprises increased by 58.8% year-on-year, with the growth rate rising by 65.9 percentage points compared to the same period last year, and by 34.3 percentage points compared to December last year.
According to data from the National Bureau of Statistics, the overall consumer price index rose by 4.9% year-on-year in January. Among various goods, prices of food, gold and silver jewelry, and clothing continued to remain high. Correspondingly, sales growth in food, gold and silver jewelry, and clothing categories among the top 100 large retail enterprises was particularly notable, with retail sales year-on-year growth rates of 71.8%, 88.3%, and 62.1% respectively. Their shares increased from 13.0%, 6.9%, and 35.6% in January last year to 14.0%, 8.2%, and 36.2% in 2011. In contrast, the shares of home appliances, cosmetics, audio-visual equipment, and other goods declined.
In January 2011, the retail sales of home appliances among the nation's top 100 large retail enterprises increased by 33% year-on-year, with the growth rate rising by 9.3 percentage points compared to the same period last year, and by 28.7 percentage points compared to December last year. Among them, retail sales of electric heaters increased by 125.5% year-on-year, and the growth rate of refrigerator retail sales increased by 26.2 percentage points compared to last year.
According to statistics, the retail sales of clothing among the nation's top 100 large retail enterprises increased by 62.1% year-on-year in January, significantly faster by 64.1 percentage points compared to the same period last year. Among them, men's clothing grew by 70.8%, women's clothing by 58.9%, and children's clothing by 97.4%.
Looking at the retail volume of various types of clothing, the year-on-year growth was 44.7%, faster by 58.1 percentage points compared to the same period last year, and also faster by 33.8 percentage points compared to the whole of last year. The most outstanding performance was in men's suits, jackets, and trousers, with sales growth rates of 47.1%, 31.6%, and 20.3% respectively.
