Brand Story:
A pair of gay designers founded this brand and revitalized the Italian fashion industry alongside Gucci and Prada. Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana each took part of their names to form this brand. One of the couple often accompanied his father to small fabric shops to select materials and do tailoring as a child, while the other had no connection to fashion at all. It was not until they met in Milan that D&G was born in 1985. The collision of ideas between these two equally rebellious designers allowed the sparks of fashion to shine on the international stage.
D&G stood out in the fashion world by showcasing three new concept collections named after the brand at the 1985 Milan Fashion Show. The "Duet" put in a lot of effort to achieve this breakthrough, and of course, they gained recognition from the audience and media present.
The unique style of the two designers directly influenced the overall development direction of the brand: only non-professional models were used for runway shows; classical music was often played at presentations; makeup, Mediterranean hairstyles, and models with black hair and southern physiques, etc. These behaviors, originally far from the fashion circle, were exaggerated by them and eventually became D&G's unique signature.
With several years of new product launches, D&G grew rapidly: in 1987, D&G released a knitwear collection; in 1988, D&G signed with Onward Kashiyama and began distributing products to Japan; in 1989, D&G launched its first women's intimate underwear and beachwear collections; in 1990, D&G men's products were born. Soon, D&G settled among the world's top brands, achieving in a few years what others struggle a lifetime to attain.
