Brand Story:
Christian Dior (Kèlǐsītīn Dì'ào, abbreviated as CD) has always been synonymous with "glamorous haute couture." He inherited the tradition of French haute couture, consistently following a high-end and luxurious design style with exquisite craftsmanship, catering to the aesthetic tastes of mature women in high society. He insisted on using high-quality, luxurious fabrics to create dazzling and elegant women's clothing, which not only attracted the attention of the fashion industry but also represented the highest spirit of French fashion culture.
Christian Dior is regarded as one of the "most outstanding designers of this century." He was born in 1905 in Normandy, France. The name Dior is a combination of the French words for "God" and "gold," with gold later becoming the representative color of Dior products. Dior was not originally trained in fashion design but graduated from the Paris Institute of Political Studies. However, the son of an entrepreneur never lost his passion for art. During his study of aesthetics, he met Picasso, Matisse, Dalí, and others. In 1935, he began painting for "Le Figaro" and even sold his fashion sketches on the streets of Paris for 20 francs each. In 1938, he joined Robert Piquet's company as an assistant designer. In 1942, he worked with Pierre Balmain, by which time he had mastered skills in clothing design and structure. After years of ups and downs in the fashion industry, Dior, at the age of 41, opened his first personal fashion store on Avenue Montaigne in Paris in 1946. His first collection, "New Look," made him famous overnight. Following that, his designs became unstoppable: asymmetrical skirts, vertical garments, O-shaped, A-shaped, Y-shaped, H-shaped, tulip-shaped, arrow-shaped... a series of ingenious designs kept him at the forefront of fashion. In 1947, Dior was awarded the Neiman Marcus Award in the United States, and in 1950, he received the French Legion of Honor medal. Dior passed away suddenly from a heart attack in Italy in 1957.
Dior's ten years of hard work in the Paris fashion scene not only brought refreshing changes to Parisian women's fashion from overall style to details but also restored Paris's status as the fashion capital after World War II. He also nurtured two well-known design masters: Pierre Cardin and Yves Saint Laurent.
Dior became a classic not only because of its innovative yet elegant designs but also because it cultivated many outstanding young designers. Yves Saint Laurent, Marc Bohan, Gianfranco Ferre, and John Galliano successively took over after Dior's death, pushing Dior's influence to its peak with extraordinary design skills, all adhering to the same design spirit—Dior's exquisite tailoring. In 2001, French designer Hedi Slimane took over the renamed Dior Homme. His designs emphasized perfect lines, and the ultra-small-sized clothing presented a slightly morbid beauty through slim young male models, thus becoming a global sensation.
