Brand Story:
Remember the classic scene in "American Gigolo" where Richard Gere walks out of the bathroom facing a bed full of Armani suits, unsure which one to wear?
Renowned as the "King of Jackets," Giorgio Armani's career journey, from a low-key debut to widespread fame, is like a classic fashion piece—unpretentious yet intriguing. In today's world where gender distinctions are increasingly blurred, clothing is no longer strictly male or female. Giorgio Armani is one of the designers who broke the boundary between masculinity and femininity, leading the androgynous style in women's fashion.
Giorgio Armani was born in 1934 in Piacenza, near Milan. He first attended a short medical course, and after completing his military service in 1957, he worked as a "window dresser" at the department store "La Rinascente." In 1961, he moved to work as a designer for Nino Cerruti.
In 1964, without formal training, Armani designed a menswear collection for Nino Cerruti, known as the "Father of Italian Fashion." In 1970, encouraged by his friend Sergio Galeotti, he became a freelance fashion designer and consultant. Armani began to emerge in the Italian fashion scene, and between 1973 and 1974, his pilot jackets showcased at the Italian fashion shows held in the White Hall of Palazzo Pitti in Florence received great acclaim. These jackets treated leather as ordinary fabric, marking the start of Armani's brilliant design career.
In 1975, he and his friend Sergio Galeotti co-founded the menswear brand named Giorgio Armani. Their first menswear collection was highly regarded by fashion buyers and the media, featuring beautifully tailored, stylish, and easy-to-wear suits. That same year, they launched a womenswear line. Giorgio Armani's sister, Rosanna Armani, a top Italian model, used her influence to help Giorgio Armani gain recognition.
By the 1980s, Giorgio Armani began expanding his sub-brands. Besides the high fashion Giorgio Armani line, he launched ready-to-wear brand Emporio Armani for younger consumers, womenswear brand Mani, casual wear Armani Jeans, and lively children's clothing. Additionally, there were ski wear and golf apparel lines.
Later, Giorgio Armani's fame grew, with stores opening one after another from Milan to the Americas and Asia. In recent years, Emporio Armani Caffes have been established in twelve cities worldwide, such as Paris and Osaka, blending music, cuisine, and interior design aesthetics to showcase the Italian designer's philosophy of casual living to the general public.
Armani is also a master at combining artistic creativity with business operations. His ready-to-wear profits are among the highest in the industry. Although he has developed many new product lines, his brand has never lost its value. Today, Armani's business spans over a hundred countries and regions, with products including clothing, ties, glasses, scarves, leather goods, shoes, fragrances, and more. All accessories, like the clothing, emphasize exquisite texture and simple lines, embodying Armani's signature "casual elegance."
