As early as the second day of the Lunar New Year, Mianyang Xinrui Hospital Management Consulting Co., Ltd. fully resumed work in accordance with the first-level response requirements for major epidemics in Sichuan Province. Although everyone was aware of the severe situation of the epidemic's rapid spread, the unknown nature of the virus's development always made returning workers uneasy. At this critical moment, the company's Communist Party members stepped forward to take positions closest to infected fabrics, such as transportation, washing, and disinfection processing.
As a provider of hospital logistics support services, especially hospital fabric washing and disinfection services, although there are relatively frequent contacts with infectious fabrics under normal circumstances, such a large-scale outbreak of infectious disease is indeed rare. This has caused frontline employees to experience emotional fluctuations and psychological resistance due to fear of infection, which is understandable. However, no matter what, ways must be found to overcome this, as the normal operation of daily work depends on everyone's united cooperation. To ensure rapid production recovery, party members unhesitatingly took frontline positions.

Why medical laundry business decreases instead of increases
According to General Manager Zhao of Xinrui Hospital Management Company, since its establishment in 2004, the company mainly engages in hospital fabric washing and disinfection, hospital sanitation cleaning, inpatient care, hospital parking management, and other medical logistics support services. Its business covers more than 20 hospitals in Mianyang, serving a total of over 15,000 hospital beds. After 15 years of development, it has become the largest private professional hospital fabric washing enterprise in the Mianyang area.
After the epidemic outbreak, Xinrui Hospital Management Company's daily washing volume decreased from about 13 tons to about 9 tons. Why did the washing volume decrease despite the rapid epidemic development? General Manager Zhao attributes this to two reasons: on one hand, due to epidemic prevention needs, citizens reduced outings and generally avoided hospitals unless for major illnesses; on the other hand, because the large-scale outbreak coincided with the Spring Festival, most inpatients preferred home care unless their conditions were particularly severe.
As a result, the total number of inpatients decreased to varying degrees compared to before, which directly reduced the risk of hospital infections and also somewhat reduced the actual washing demand for medical fabrics. Although the washing volume decreased, the actual workload did not reduce; on the contrary, the workload related to disinfection of medical fabrics, especially the collection and disposal of infectious fabrics, increased and required stricter standards.

Work together for effective epidemic prevention
Given the current severe epidemic prevention situation, except for Mianyang Central Hospital which has its own laundry factory, almost all fever clinics and emergency medical fabric washing and disinfection work in Mianyang are undertaken by Xinrui Hospital Management Company, which faces considerable pressure. To ensure full protection for all employees and prevent infection sources during medical fabric receiving, dispatching, and washing, the company purchased more than 2,000 disposable water-soluble packaging bags at its own expense and provided them free to hospitals. Meanwhile, based on traditional Chinese medicine treatment plans provided by national epidemic prevention experts, they insist on preparing and administering preventive Chinese medicine to employees daily. Regardless of cost, they strictly guard to maximize employee safety and prevent further spread of infection routes.
On epidemic prevention and control for medical laundry enterprises
Some professional suggestions
Near the end of the interview, General Manager Zhao of Mianyang Xinrui, based on his many years of hospital work experience, offered some suggestions to colleagues in the medical laundry industry, hoping to work together with them to overcome difficulties and win the battle against epidemic prevention and control.
First, clearly understand the transmission routes of the novel coronavirus infection. Clearly inform hospital personnel of the infection risks of medical fabrics, because if washing factory receiving and dispatching staff become infected, all hospitals served by them will also face infection risks, with unimaginable consequences.
Second, if hospitals cannot provide and use disposable water-soluble packaging bags, they must follow relevant national laws and regulations by selecting orange packaging bags, double-layered with front and back sets, tightly sealing the bag mouth, and labeling with infectious fabric marks. After the laundry factory collects them, the sealed bags along with the fabrics should be washed and disinfected in machines or soaked for disinfection as required. After disinfection pretreatment, the bags are unpacked for washing, and discarded packaging bags are collected as medical waste and disposed of by qualified professional medical waste disposal institutions.
Finally, ensure the protection of laundry factory employees by strictly following WS/T508 "Technical Specifications for Washing and Disinfection of Hospital Medical Textiles" and other standards and regulations for hospital textile washing and disinfection. For example, strictly wear protective masks, gloves, work clothes, and hats; complete every step of the work process; use special antibacterial hand sanitizer for hand hygiene cleaning and disinfection; thoroughly disinfect the operation area and all machinery and equipment at the start and end of each workday; strictly follow national and industry-related standards to regulate every step of the washing and disinfection operation, providing hospital clients with safe, high-quality, and reliable washing and disinfection services with a professional and rigorous attitude, building a solid defense against the transmission of infections through medical textiles.
