3388 corporate laundry volunteers embody the "craftsmanship spirit"
To better inherit the "craftsmanship spirit" of corporate volunteers, on October 9, the Guangzhou Volunteer Federation held the "Unique Craftsmanship, Volunteer Heart and Meaning — 'Caring for Empty Nesters, Daily Laundry with Love' 2016 Mid-Autumn and Double Ninth Festival Free Laundry Service Volunteer Commendation Event." According to statistics, over the past three years, more than 100 corporate volunteers from Daily Laundry have visited 6,000 empty nest households to wash over 30,000 pieces of clothing for free. The Guangzhou Volunteer Federation hopes more corporate volunteers will bring the "craftsmanship spirit" into volunteer services.
3388 corporate volunteers participated in 13,752 hours of service
According to statistics, since the launch of the "Caring for Empty Nesters, Daily Laundry with Love" Mid-Autumn and Double Ninth Festival free laundry service in September 2014, over three years, Daily Laundry has washed 30,000 pieces of clothing for 6,000 empty nest households for free, including large and hard-to-clean items such as cotton-padded clothes, sheets, blankets, and down jackets. Over the past three years, 3388 corporate volunteers have participated in laundry services, contributing more than 13,752 hours. In 2016 alone, 1380 corporate volunteers participated in free laundry activities, serving over 5,420 hours.
This year, the "Caring for Empty Nesters, Daily Laundry with Love" activity reached nearly 30 streets, providing free laundry for over 10,000 pieces of clothing for about 2,000 empty nest elderly. It also proactively cared for community veteran craftsmen, offering free cleaning of treasured formal wear and volunteer uniforms for community veteran craftsmen and elderly volunteers, reminiscing together about treasured stories and life experiences.
A relevant person in charge of the Guangzhou Volunteer Federation stated that the free laundry service for empty nest elderly continuously focuses on the community's empty nest elderly, solving their life difficulties, continuously improving their quality of life, and providing ongoing assistance so that empty nest elderly can enjoy quality services at home.
Volunteering also requires embodying the "craftsmanship spirit"
In 2014, the Daily Laundry Volunteer Service Team was officially established. This volunteer team visits various streets across the city, visiting empty nest elderly and washing their clothes. The volunteer team has grown from 20 to over 100 members. When corporate volunteers participate in volunteer services, they also follow the craftsmanship spirit of focus, skill preservation, and dedication, applying professional and meticulous techniques. During visits, corporate volunteers teach elderly people laundry skills, using their professional knowledge to serve them. When they find clothes that need mending during washing, they repair the elderly's clothes before sending them for cleaning.
Over the past three years, Daily Laundry corporate volunteers have not been confined to service content but have continuously innovated service methods. During the Mid-Autumn Festival, they visit elderly homes to offer greetings and design unique garden parties, providing more platforms for community elderly to participate and showcase themselves. At the same time, they have expanded participation and beneficiaries to all social groups. By inviting the public to brainstorm laundry tips, "these laundry tips can be used in daily life, very thoughtful and practical," said a citizen. A relevant person in charge of Daily Laundry stated that developing corporate volunteer services is not about persistently repeating mechanical service content but about continuous innovation under the premise of excellence.
A relevant person in charge of the Guangzhou Volunteer Federation stated that Daily Laundry companies flexibly apply the professionalism, rigor, and innovation of the laundry industry to volunteer services. They hope more companies can bring their industry's "craftsmanship spirit" into the volunteer sector.
From solving elderly difficulties to caring for their mental health
The "Mid-Autumn and Double Ninth Festival Free Laundry Activity" has become a public welfare service brand in Guangzhou, deeply rooted in people's hearts. A relevant person in charge of the Guangzhou Volunteer Federation stated that over the past three years, Daily Laundry volunteers have not simply washed clothes for empty nest elderly for free but have continuously researched and enhanced service content. From single free laundry to Mid-Autumn Festival visits, this year's free laundry activity focused more on the mental health of empty nest elderly, organizing garden parties with community empty nest elderly, allowing community "veteran craftsmen" to teach handicrafts and perform songs and dances to celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival. Facing the changing needs of service recipients, under the guidance of social workers, Daily Laundry corporate volunteers combine personal experience and observation with the actual needs of empty nest elderly, summarize experiences, and adjust service methods in time to provide richer and more appropriate services.
The Guangzhou Volunteer Federation hopes that corporate participation in volunteer services can not only combine the company's own strengths but also find more suitable and appropriate service methods through practice and observation, so that service recipients can enjoy high-quality volunteer services.
From novice to experienced
A Chun is a young woman born in the 1990s. Three years ago, she graduated from university. Daily Laundry was the first company she joined after graduation. That year, the Guangzhou Volunteer Federation cooperated with Daily Laundry for the first time on the "Caring for Empty Nesters, Daily Laundry with Love" public welfare project. "I still remember my first volunteer service. That day, I went with colleagues to an empty nester's home. At that time, I had no idea how to communicate with the elderly." A Chun is an ordinary laundry staff member at Daily Laundry, responsible for inspecting clothes. In her first year participating in corporate volunteer service, because she did not know how to communicate with elderly people, she only focused on inspecting clothes with her head down during home visits, completing her first visit in a daze.
Three years have passed, and A Chun has grown from a novice corporate volunteer to a senior volunteer at Daily Laundry. "I can now chat freely with different elderly people," A Chun admitted. Over the past three years, she has visited elderly people nearly a hundred times. Gradually, her patience and carefulness in inspecting clothes have touched the elderly, some of whom actively ask her laundry-related questions. Now A Chun is a senior volunteer in the Daily Laundry service team, leading new corporate volunteers to collect clothes and easily start conversations with the elderly. "I think volunteering is not only about helping those in need in society but also about learning life experiences from them. This may benefit us for a lifetime," said corporate volunteer A Chun.
