This newspaper report (Reporter Chen Haoyang, Correspondent Sheng Jintu) recently, the Yiwu City Administration for Industry and Commerce Choucheng Industrial and Commercial Office successfully mediated a laundry dispute that had dragged on for more than ten months without resolution. Consumer Ms. Wang received 500 yuan compensation from the merchant, and this "marathon" style rights protection was finally satisfactorily resolved.
On May 18 last year, Ms. Wang, who lives on Xiangshan Road, Choucheng Street, Yiwu City, took a military green trench coat worth 3,918 yuan to a dry cleaner located on Xinma Road in downtown Yiwu for cleaning. At that time, the store issued her a receipt, confirming the pick-up time within 10 days, and charged 100 yuan for the laundry service.
On May 27, Ms. Wang went to the dry cleaner to pick up her clothes according to the pick-up time on the receipt. When she received the cleaned coat from the clerk and inspected it, Ms. Wang found that both pockets of the trench coat had faded to a grayish-white color. She immediately requested the dry cleaner to restore the faded coat to its original condition and provide appropriate compensation. The dry cleaner's clerk replied that the coat would be sent to a discoloration treatment center in Nanjing for restoration and that she would be notified to pick it up later. Ms. Wang agreed to the dry cleaner's suggestion.
A month later, since she had not received any notification from the dry cleaner to pick up her coat, Ms. Wang went to the dry cleaner to inquire. The dry cleaner replied that the coat had not yet been returned and asked Ms. Wang to wait a few more days. In this way, Ms. Wang went to the dry cleaner about every ten days, making over 100 visits in total. The dry cleaner's clerks politely asked her to wait a little longer each time.
On March 18 this year, Ms. Wang came to the dry cleaner again, but this time the clerk's response made her very angry. The clerk told her that the coat had been sent back a week ago, but because the dry cleaner had been busy recently, her coat could not be found and might have been lost. They asked Ms. Wang to wait a few more days. At this point, Ms. Wang had lost patience and demanded compensation from the dry cleaner at the purchase price of the coat, but the dry cleaner refused her request. Helpless, Ms. Wang filed a complaint with the Yiwu Industrial and Commercial Department on March 25.
After receiving the complaint, the Yiwu City Administration for Industry and Commerce Choucheng Industrial and Commercial Office immediately convened both parties for mediation. After understanding the situation from both sides, the staff believed that Ms. Wang's compensation request fully complied with relevant laws and regulations. Moreover, Ms. Wang had invested a lot of time, effort, and money in the later rights protection process, so the dry cleaner should provide appropriate compensation. After hearing the explanation from the staff, the store agreed to compensate Ms. Wang 500 yuan and agreed to restore Ms. Wang's coat to its original condition as soon as possible.
