Qingdao Hosts the First Laundry Master Competition

On October 21, 2010, the "Opening Ceremony of the First Laundry Master Competition of the 11th Qingdao Vocational Skills Competition" was grandly held at Qingdao Jieshen Laundry Co., Ltd. Wang Ling, Director of the Skills Appraisal Center of Qingdao Labor Bureau, Deputy Director Tao Tongwen, and other leaders were present to provide guidance. Sun Shanjia, President of the Qingdao Laundry and Dyeing Industry Association, spoke on behalf of the organizing committee and announced the official launch of the Laundry Master Competition.
The Qingdao Vocational Skills Competition is jointly organized by eight government departments including the Qingdao Human Resources and Social Security Bureau, Women's Federation, Youth League Committee, and Publicity Department. It is the most comprehensive and authoritative skills competition covering the widest range of industries, held every two years. With the development of Qingdao's laundry industry and the continuous increase in practitioners, the laundry and dyeing industry has become one of the key industries. Therefore, the Qingdao Vocational Skills Competition specially added the Laundry Master competition event.
As one of the sub-competition area organizing committees, the Qingdao Laundry and Dyeing Industry Association is responsible for organizing and coordinating the competition. According to Li Yixiu, a staff member of the Laundry and Dyeing Association, there are 31 contestants in this Laundry Master competition, all frontline practitioners from various laundry shops and large laundry companies in Qingdao. The competition consists of two parts: a theoretical exam and practical operation. The practical operation includes three sub-items: fabric identification, garment ironing, and stain removal. The contestant who wins first place will be awarded the title of "Top Laundry Worker in Qingdao's Laundry and Dyeing Industry." The top six contestants will be awarded the title of "Qingdao Technical Expert" by the city organizing committee. Migrant workers who win awards in the competition and are confirmed as technicians or senior technicians may be eligible for household registration in Qingdao if they meet the conditions. The top three contestants will also receive monetary awards issued by the Qingdao Laundry and Dyeing Industry Association.
