No diamond drill, no porcelain work. To do a good job in luxury leather care, the spray gun and airbrush are our diamond drills, but in this industry, many people do not use the diamond drill well, meaning they have not mastered the basics of the airbrush and spray gun before starting leather work.
The leather products made are predictable: poor hand feel, thick coating, uneven thickness, lack of natural gloss, color bleeding on stitching lines, and most of these problems occur due to the techniques of the spray gun and airbrush. Of course, the superiority of chemical products also plays a significant role.
Let me make an analogy: the same knife will produce completely different shredded potatoes depending on who uses it, and the appearance of the cooked dish will differ. Especially in our industry, customers want results (the presented effect), not to be told how complicated the process is.
For luxury leather care, I personally think the technology is not that profound. If you master the use of spray guns and airbrushes and choose some good leather chemical products, you can also create perfect works. If you master 80% of the common techniques, I think that's enough. You can gradually learn and tackle difficult problems later; this is a process every practitioner must go through.
01
Differences between airbrush and spray gun:
1. Practical range of airbrush: bags, shoes, leather jackets with many stitching lines.
2. Characteristics of airbrush: fine atomization, thin coating, and products made with small white paste are all top quality.
3. Practical range of spray gun: leather jackets, car sofas, and other large items.
4. Characteristics of spray gun: ideal for two-tone effects but poor atomization, large spraying area, thick coating.
02
Spraying techniques:
1. Skills required for airbrush/spray gun: air pressure should not be too high, distance should not be too far, maintain parallel straight-line spraying, spray one stroke overlapping the previous one, and the leather surface after spraying should have a wet look.
2. It is not recommended to spray on a table surface because it is not parallel spraying, and the resin on the leather surface will be lost.
3. If you still cannot achieve good results following the video operation methods, it must be a problem with the chemical products.
4. If the leather surface itself is matte, you can add a little "matting agent."
5. For different leathers, the spray gun technique should be appropriately adjusted.
03
Identifying leather:
Before coloring, first identify whether the leather is water-absorbent or non-water-absorbent. The method is simple: just test with water.
If it is water-absorbent leather, the "surface sealer" does not work effectively. Just add one part of "special resin for reversed leather" to the prepared color paste, and the hand feel will not become hard. The special resin for reversed leather is a raw resin and one of the essential products for leather care, an exclusive formula of Private Home. If you use other brands' "reversed leather resin" and the leather board becomes hard, then it is a product problem.
Water-absorbent leather chemical ratio: 1 part color paste + 3 parts aniline resin + 1 part special resin for reversed leather + 3 drops crosslinking agent, stir evenly before spraying. Adjust the proportion of the special resin for reversed leather freely according to the degree of water absorption. Follow Private Home's official account - Chemical Mall for detailed product introduction.
04
Selection of airbrush/spray gun:
Beginners are advised to buy a better K3 spray gun, generally 0.5 caliber round nozzle, easy to operate.
Spray guns with fan-shaped adjustable nozzles are more suitable for experienced users, generally 0.5 caliber.
For airbrushes, it is best to buy the following gun-type airbrush, easy to operate, preferably 0.3 caliber.

05
Spraying color effect (color layering):
1. Use a spray gun, adjust the air volume valve to minimum, and the flow valve to maximum.
2. Resin ratio should be low, generally 1 part color paste + 2 parts resin. The less resin, the fuller the color layering particles, and the effect is more intuitive.
3. Two-tone usually starts with a base color, which must be light, then add dark color particles.
06
Spray gun cleaning precautions:
1. Water-based materials should be cleaned with water.
2. Oil-based materials should be cleaned with color remover, alcohol, acetone, etc.
3. Pay attention to every small part of the airbrush and protect the needle.
