There is a kind of spirit called fearlessness; there is a realm called calmness in the face of change!
On May 12, 2008, the "Wuhan Laundry and Dyeing Industry Summit Forum" was held as scheduled in the conference room on the 18th floor of Beidou Building.
It was a normal afternoon, just like the morning. More than 140 colleagues from the laundry and dyeing industry of Hubei Province attended the forum, gathered together, and listened attentively to Mr. Shu Qi's on-site Q&A.
At that moment, a devastating earthquake that deeply shocked all Chinese people struck Wenchuan and affected Wuhan. The 18th-floor venue, located high above, began to shake violently. Everyone suddenly felt dizzy and unsteady. The fear brought by the sudden and unclear situation quickly spread in the hearts of all attendees, causing unrest in the venue. Someone shouted, "The building is shaking! The building is going to collapse!" Audience members in the back rows stood up one after another, preparing to rush out, and the scene began to lose control.
Sitting upright in the front row, Mr. Shu Qi was focused on answering questions. The chaos on site immediately made him realize the seriousness of the situation. He promptly gave instructions to the staff of the Wuhan Laundry and Dyeing Industry Technology Promotion Center, the organizer of the meeting: "Organize an emergency evacuation immediately!"
"Everyone use the stairs!" "Quick!" "Don't rush!" "Don't fall!" The calmness of the staff from the Wuhan Laundry and Dyeing Industry Technology Promotion Center calmed the panicked and frightened colleagues. More than 140 people evacuated orderly within 2 minutes and safely moved to a secure area. The 8 staff members of the center, led by Mr. Shu Qi and the center director Li Weigang, were the last group to leave.
Once out of danger, the attendees strongly requested to continue the meeting process interrupted by the accident. Mr. Shu Qi was deeply moved by the Wuhan laundry colleagues' eagerness to learn. After discussion with the organizer, it was decided to temporarily move the venue to the nearby Tiantian Pearl Plaza.
A unique technical exchange was held in the plaza. Everyone gathered around Mr. Shu Qi, sitting on the ground, eagerly listening to his insightful explanations. Time quietly slipped away, and everyone was still reluctant to end. When the meeting concluded, amid heartfelt farewells, Mr. Shu Qi promised to return to Wuhan and meet again.
The 2008 Wuhan Laundry and Dyeing Industry Summit Forum concluded successfully. Submitted by Hubei Laundry and Dyeing Association
