Paralympics Launches Accessible Laundry Service, Continuing the Meticulous Olympic Service
[Rongchang Olympic Special Report]
To make life more convenient for disabled athletes during the competition, recently, the accessible facilities at the former Olympic venues and Olympic Village laundry shops have been put into use. Laundry volunteers have also specially added various humane services beyond the regular laundry services. If disabled athletes need, they will pick up and deliver clothes to their doors.
At the Paralympic Village laundry shop, the pick-up and delivery service is only part of the accessible laundry services for the Paralympics. In addition to dry cleaning, water washing, and ironing, Rongchang·Ilsa laundry volunteers provide services such as altering the length and size of clothes and customizing special garments for Paralympic athletes. Upon entering the Paralympic Village laundry shop, one can see ramps suitable for wheelchair users, and the clothes drop-off and pick-up counters are designed at heights suitable for wheelchair users. Laundry volunteers have all received Paralympic service guarantee training, including knowledge about the Paralympics and basic information about disabled persons, psychology of disabled persons, laundry precautions for disabled persons, and common sign language service skills, effectively reducing communication barriers between laundry volunteers and disabled athletes and officials, better demonstrating a service level of "enthusiasm, civility, and professionalism."
Currently, laundry volunteers have begun to tackle the biggest laundry challenges of the Paralympics. Like the Olympics, the Paralympics also appoint award ceremony hostesses and flag bearers, whose clothing is made of pure silk or partially silk fabrics with hand embroidery, and each person has only one set of tailor-made clothing. Rongchang·Ilsa laundry volunteers treat these special garments with specialized washing methods, maintaining a washing frequency of 5-7 times per set, and return them within 24 hours.
According to statistics, in past Olympics, there were a total of 38,000 athletes, media workers, and officials, while the Olympic-specialized laundry factory opened by Rongchang·Ilsa received 44,000 pieces of laundry, basically serving all the clothing cleaning needs of Beijing Olympic service personnel. Wang Shuyuan, director of the China Commercial Federation's Laundry Professional Committee, said in an interview: Under policy guidance, Rongchang Ilsa Olympic laundry designed a rapid response "123 Laundry Method." This unique work system and process ensure meticulous and thoughtful service. In the Paralympic laundry service, these systems and spirits will continue to be maintained and continuously improved to ensure the Paralympics are as wonderful as the Olympics.
On September 5, a press conference was jointly held by the Laundry Committee of the China Chamber of Commerce and Beijing Rongchang Technology Service Co., Ltd. regarding the laundry services provided for the Beijing Olympics and the upcoming Paralympic laundry services. At the press conference, Laundry Committee Director Wang Shuyuan answered reporters' questions. Laundry Committee Secretary-General Pan Wei, Rongchang Company Chairman and Laundry Committee Deputy Director Zhang Rongyao, and others also attended the press conference.
