October 14 is World Standards Day. World Standards Day is a commemorative day jointly established by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), and the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), aimed at raising awareness of the importance of standardization in global economic activities.
This year's theme for Standards Day is "International Standards Build Global Confidence," intended to promote the important role of standardization in improving the quality and environmental standards of products and services, enhancing safety, reliability, and compatibility, as well as boosting confidence among producers and consumers, further raising public awareness of standardization, and making new contributions to the sound and rapid development of the economy and society.
Standards are the technical basis for economic and social activities, the premise of quality, and the guarantee of safety. Standards are developed based on testing and verification, experience summary, comparative research, and other work, possessing scientific and reliable characteristics, providing assurance for the safety of products and services. Standards simplify and unify production and services, improve efficiency, and promote economic development.
The Professional Committee of Laundry and Dyeing under the China General Chamber of Commerce has long been committed to the standardization construction of the industry, formulating the national standardization work plan for the laundry and dyeing industry; organizing the formulation of relevant standards for the laundry and dyeing industry; completing standard work authorized by the National Standardization Administration and the Ministry of Commerce. The Laundry and Dyeing Committee will continue to strive for the standardization and normalization construction of the industry in the future.

International Standards Build Global Confidence

International Telecommunication Union (ITU) World Standards Day Message
October 14, 2011
IEC Chairman Dr. Klaus Uhlig
ISO Chairman Dr. Boris Ellison
ITU Secretary-General Dr. Hamad Tour
In today's world, we increasingly expect that everything around us will work and operate as reliably as we hope.
When making a phone call, we hope to connect immediately to any phone worldwide. When accessing the internet, we want to quickly obtain news and information. When ill, we rely on reliable medical devices to cure diseases. When driving, we expect the car's engine, steering, brakes, and child safety systems to be reliable. We also want to avoid power failures and harmful pollution effects.
International standards perfectly meet people's expectations and help us build confidence. In fact, one of the key goals of standardization activities is to provide this confidence. It is precisely because international standards define the key indicators of systems, products, and services that they can operate as reliably as we expect.
International standards improve the quality and environmental standards of products and services, enhance their safety, reliability, compatibility, efficiency, and effectiveness, thereby giving manufacturers confidence to circulate and use their products in the global market.
The compatibility of international standards promotes economies of scale, ensuring users enjoy the same services anywhere, benefiting consumers, manufacturers, and service providers greatly. More importantly, in developing countries, international standards accelerate the circulation of new products and services and promote economic development.
International standards are developed in an open and transparent environment, where all stakeholders have the right to participate in the development of international standards, which is an effective guarantee that international standards help us build confidence.
"Enhance and strengthen global confidence, connect the world with international standards" is the common goal of the World Standards Cooperation Organization — the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), and the International Telecommunication Union (ITU).
