International Standards Build Global Confidence
— International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), International Organization for Standardization (ISO)
International Telecommunication Union (ITU) World Standards Day Message

In today's world, we increasingly expect that everything around us will work and operate as reliably as we hope.
When making a phone call, we want to connect immediately to any phone worldwide. When accessing the internet, we want to quickly obtain news and information. When ill, we want to rely on dependable medical devices to cure diseases. When driving, we want the car's engine, steering, brakes, and child safety systems to be reliable. We also want to be free from power failures and the harmful effects of pollution.
International standards perfectly meet these expectations and help us build confidence. In fact, one of the key goals of standardization activities is to provide this confidence. It is precisely because international standards define key indicators for systems, products, and services that they can be guaranteed to operate as reliably as we expect.
International standards improve the quality and environmental performance of products and services, enhance their safety, reliability, compatibility, efficiency, and effectiveness, and thereby give manufacturers confidence to circulate and use their products in the global market.
The compatibility of international standards promotes economies of scale, ensuring users enjoy the same level of service anywhere, benefiting consumers, manufacturers, and service providers alike. More importantly, in developing countries, international standards accelerate the circulation of new products and services and promote economic development.
International standards are developed in an open and transparent environment, where all stakeholders have the right to participate in the development process. This is also an effective guarantee that international standards help us build confidence.
"Enhancing and strengthening global confidence, connecting the world with international standards" is the common goal of the World Standards Cooperation Organization — the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), and the International Telecommunication Union (ITU).
