Speech at the Closing Ceremony
President of China General Chamber of Commerce He Jihai
(August 17, 2007)
Distinguished guests, friends, comrades:
Having just attended the award ceremony of the "5th National Laundry and Dyeing Industry Vocational Skills Competition Finals," I feel very encouraged and gratified. On behalf of the China General Chamber of Commerce, I warmly congratulate the contestants who achieved excellent results in the finals! I sincerely thank the Tianjin Municipal Government and relevant departments for their strong support!
Director Wang Shuyuan asked me to say a few words, but what should I say?
I have been thinking, as the laundry and dyeing industry directly serves the public, what is the most prominent issue currently? I believe it is the word "integrity." A person cannot stand without integrity, and a business cannot prosper without integrity. Integrity is the foundation of our existence.
I have often said, "Integrity is gold. Integrity is the greatest intangible asset of an enterprise, determining its rise and fall. By making good use of this intangible asset, an enterprise can develop rapidly and sustainably." Once credit is lost, the enterprise is near its end, its life is over. Therefore, in this sense, for China to establish a true market economy system, it must strictly follow the principle of integrity to ensure the smooth operation of the market. Otherwise, it will increase friction or even resistance in market operations, leading to market chaos.
Taking this opportunity, I would like to share some personal views on how the laundry and dyeing industry can strengthen integrity work for comrades' reference. I will mainly say three things:
First, integrity is an attitude.
Integrity means being honest, speaking honestly, and doing honest things.
Everyone knows Tongrentang is a century-old brand, a famous "Chinese time-honored brand." Tongrentang's creed is "Though the preparation is complicated, we dare not reduce labor; though the ingredients are expensive, we dare not reduce materials." This is not a summary of experience after becoming a century-old store, but an integrity attitude upheld from the very beginning. It is precisely this unwavering integrity attitude that has made it a long-lasting century-old store.
The development of an enterprise relies on capital for short-term strategy, technology for mid-term strategy, and service for long-term strategy. Fundraising requires financing ability, and financing depends on integrity; people will only lend money if they trust you. Technology depends on talent; only with talent can technological innovation be carried out to maintain a leading position. Recruiting talent also depends on integrity to unite everyone. In short, it ultimately depends on an attitude of integrity.
The attitude of integrity is formed through accumulation over time, so integrity building is a routine daily task for enterprises. Fashion comes from the top, trends come from the bottom, and integrity culture is a long-term enterprise operation mechanism and a cultural accumulation of employees. Integrity culture comes from conscious and voluntary behavior inspired by feelings; entrepreneurs must lead by example and personally take action.
Whatever we do, only by first clarifying our work attitude can we establish our positioning, consider the direction of development, and formulate specific steps to achieve development goals. Therefore, it can also be said that attitude determines everything.
The "5th National Laundry and Dyeing Industry Vocational Skills Competition" held today has so many participants, showing that everyone has the courage to be pioneers and a positive attitude toward doing their jobs well. I hope everyone will continue to perform honest and trustworthy service with the same serious attitude in their respective positions after returning.
Second, integrity is a responsibility.
The root of responsibility lies in being a person. We would not forget the kindness of our parents or lose filial piety just because they are not by our side; nor would we neglect caring for and educating our children just because they are not at our knees. Extending this, it means "Respect the elderly as you do your own; care for the young as you do your own."
The integrity responsibility we advocate is such a conscious principle that does not change with time, place, or environment, and must be implemented in specific business operations.
In daily enterprise services, do we use polite language and show initiative and enthusiasm? Do we keep promises and treat all customers fairly? Do we ensure complete procedures and genuine materials? Do we act responsibly and strive for excellence? Do we avoid exaggeration and misleading consumers? These all concretely reflect whether an enterprise or employee has integrity responsibility.
Good intentions alone are not enough without excellent skills; that only results in nice words but no good deeds. Conversely, having excellent skills without good intentions often leads to wrongdoing, and the higher the skill, the more serious the damage to integrity responsibility. Aren't those who use high technology to commit fraud highly skilled? We strive to organically combine both to do good and great things. Zhang Binggui is our best role model.
Holding vocational skills competitions is good because through competitions, the service skills of practitioners can be assessed and the awareness of improving service skills strengthened. But this is not enough. More effort must be made to continuously enhance practitioners' awareness of integrity responsibility.
Recently, the "Laundry and Dyeing Industry Management Measures" have also been promulgated and implemented, with considerable content on integrity service and enterprise responsibility. I hope the Laundry and Dyeing Professional Committee and all laundry and dyeing enterprises and organizations will study it carefully and carry out publicity and implementation work with a strong sense of responsibility and mission.
Third, integrity is an ability.
Integrity is not only an attitude and willingness, nor just slogans written on paper or hung on walls for display, but a real ability integrated into every specific service. Therefore, having a positive attitude toward integrity service and willingness to take responsibility for it, one must also have the ability to perform integrity service.
The integrity service capability we emphasize should include, for enterprises, abilities in business and management, scientific and cultural development, as well as technological and equipment innovation; for enterprise employees, it should include abilities in integrity and ethics, compliance with rules and discipline, and job-related technical knowledge.
Where does the capability of integrity service come from? It can only come from continuous learning, years of practical experience, and the courage to innovate based on one's duties.
Vocational skills competitions provide a platform for industry enterprises to showcase their business management, scientific integrity, cultural development levels, and spirit; they also offer opportunities for practitioners to enhance their comprehensive qualities through learning, exchanging, honing skills, and demonstrating abilities.
Practice has proven that organizing industry vocational skills competitions is an excellent way to guide enterprises and practitioners to diligently study technology, improve service skills, conduct on-the-job training, continuously challenge themselves, and be courageous in innovation. It is hoped that the Laundry and Dyeing Professional Committee will continuously enrich and improve based on a thorough summary of experiences.
Comrades!
The competition has ended, but our responsibility and work to serve society and the public have no end. The achievements we have made in the competition can only be a new starting point for our future service capabilities and levels. I hope comrades can maintain their honor and continue to work hard.
Finally, I wish comrades good health and smooth work!
