In order to guide laundry and dyeing industry practitioners to diligently study technology, follow the path of professional growth, improve the vocational skills level of laundry and dyeing workers, and showcase the spirit of laundry and dyeing employees, entrusted by the Laundry and Dyeing Professional Committee of the China General Chamber of Commerce and the Shaanxi Laundry and Dyeing Industry Association, the Xi'an Labor and Social Security Bureau and Xi'an Laundry and Dyeing Association held the 5th National Laundry and Dyeing Industry Vocational Skills Competition Shaanxi Regional Contest in Xi'an from May 17 to 19, 2007.
More than 120 contestants from various cities across the province participated in this competition, representing over 60 dry cleaning shops, hotels, and other enterprises.
Competition events included: garment stain removal, garment ironing, dyed leather care, and mending.
Outstanding competitors in this competition were awarded intermediate laundry worker vocational qualification certificates by the Xi'an labor security department, and the top three in each event were recommended to participate in the 2007 national finals.
It is understood that there are currently about 2,300 street laundry shops in our province, about 1,000 in Xi'an, with more than 20,000 practitioners (excluding laundry workers in hotels, hospitals, etc.), and an annual turnover of about 120 million yuan. However, small dry cleaning shops mainly run by couples account for about 70%, and the number of medium and large laundry enterprises mainly operating chain stores with an annual turnover of over 500,000 yuan is less than 1% of the province.
According to regulations, personnel engaged in the laundry industry must hold relevant qualification certificates. Among them, the certificate holding rate should reach 100% for top-level shops, 80% for first-class shops, and 50% for second-class shops. Because the laundry and dyeing process is relatively complex and technical, professional laundry personnel must have basic knowledge of laundry and dyeing business. That is, understanding the characteristics of garment fabrics and fibers, determining whether the garment should be dry cleaned or washed based on the texture, color, and processing technology of the garment, what kind of solvent to use, how much to use, etc., to ensure laundry quality.
However, currently only 4% of practitioners in our province have received professional laundry and dyeing skills training, and fewer than 2,000 hold laundry and dyeing worker qualification certificates (including laundry workers in hotels, hospitals, etc.). The low quality of practitioners directly affects the service quality of the industry. This competition has sparked a learning and technology enthusiasm throughout the industry, making a due contribution to building a harmonious society.
