Vocational skills competitions are an important means to promote the construction of China's high-skilled talent team. To implement the spirit of the "Opinions on Further Strengthening the Work of High-skilled Talents" issued by the General Office of the CPC Central Committee and the General Office of the State Council, and to accelerate the advancement of the strategy of strengthening the country through talents, the Ministry of Labor and Social Security organized the 2007 National Vocational Skills Competition series with the theme "Skills China". It mainly consists of five national first-class competitions led by the Ministry of Labor and Social Security, 28 national second-class competitions organized by industry departments, and competitions organized by labor and social security departments of provinces (autonomous regions and municipalities directly under the central government).
To support the 2007 National Vocational Skills Competition series, the "National Vocational Skills Competition Series Launch Ceremony" was grandly held in Beijing on April 26. The opening ceremony was hosted by Zhang Xiaojian, Vice Minister of the Ministry of Labor and Social Security. Attendees and speakers included Tian Chengping, Minister of the Ministry of Labor and Social Security; Liu Jinguo, Vice Minister of the Ministry of Public Security; Huang Danhua, Deputy Director of the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council; Wang Xiao, Secretary of the Secretariat of the Communist Youth League Central Committee; and Sun Xiande, Vice Chairman of the China Disabled Persons' Federation. The conference advocated "respect labor, respect knowledge, respect talent, respect creation," and proposed "skill exchange, learning communication, competing with style, competing with level." The event also showcased the emblems of the competition series and the emblems of various first-class competitions. The Secretariat of the Laundry and Dyeing Professional Committee of the China General Chamber of Commerce sent representatives to participate in this event.
The "5th National Laundry and Dyeing Industry Vocational Skills Competition" hosted by the Laundry and Dyeing Professional Committee of the China General Chamber of Commerce is listed as one of the 28 national second-class competitions organized by industry departments. This competition is set according to national occupational standards and divided into traditional and innovative projects: the four traditional projects are "stain removal," "clothing ironing," "clothing mending," and "clothing dyeing"; based on the traditional projects, three innovative projects were added this year: "front desk garment receiving," "leather garment maintenance," and "four-item all-around." The competition content fully considers the participation of practitioners, aiming to stimulate their enthusiasm for learning skills, expand the scope of technical exchange, establish the industry's brand, guide the vast number of practitioners in the laundry and dyeing industry to diligently study technology, pursue career development through their posts, showcase vocational skills and professional demeanor, conduct technical exchanges, and promote the development of the laundry and dyeing industry, thereby improving the overall technical level of the industry.
The "5th National Laundry and Dyeing Industry Vocational Skills Competition" is scheduled to be held in Tianjin this August. For the top three winners in the national finals, the Laundry and Dyeing Professional Committee of the China General Chamber of Commerce will award the first (second, third) place trophies and certificates of the "National Laundry and Dyeing Industry Vocational Skills Competition," and will recommend to the Ministry of Labor and Social Security to confer the honorary title of "National Technical Expert"; for those who qualify in the national finals, the Laundry and Dyeing Professional Committee of the China General Chamber of Commerce will award the title of "National Laundry and Dyeing Industry Technical Expert."
