The "National Occupational Skill Standard for Leather Care Workers," proposed and organized for compilation by the Leather Care Professional Committee of the China General Chamber of Commerce, has recently been officially approved by the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security. The release of this standard marks the establishment of a national occupational standard for the new profession of leather care workers.
The new profession of leather care workers was announced to the public on November 12, 2009, and the task of compiling the standard was entrusted to the Leather Care Professional Committee of the China General Chamber of Commerce. On May 27, 2010, the Occupational Skill Appraisal Center of the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security held the initial review meeting for the leather care worker standard. Experts from across the country conducted in-depth discussions and detailed revisions of the draft, making the content more compliant with regulatory requirements and industry realities. On July 12 of the same year, a review meeting was held again to modify and improve various aspects such as occupational functions, work content, skill requirements, and operability of leather care workers. After more than ten revisions and the adoption of hundreds of suggestions from over 40 industry experts, the national occupational standard for leather care workers was finally approved and became a national occupational standard.
During the standard formulation process, relevant leaders from the Occupational Skill Appraisal Center of the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security attached great importance and provided strong support. They conducted multiple in-depth visits to frontline enterprises together with leaders of the Leather Care Committee of the China General Chamber of Commerce to research the leather care profession and listen to opinions and suggestions from all sectors of society and industry authorities. During the initial and subsequent reviews of the standard, dedicated personnel were assigned to guide the formulation work and offered valuable advice.
Currently, the Leather Care Committee has begun organizing the compilation and development of supporting training materials as required, and the training and occupational appraisal work for leather care workers is also gradually underway.
