The 2015 National Vocational Skills Competition Work Seminar and the 43rd WorldSkills Competition Technical Training Conference, convened by the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security of the People's Republic of China (hereinafter referred to as the Ministry), was held on April 1 in Beijing. Deputy Minister Tang Tao and other leaders of the Ministry attended and spoke at the meeting. The meeting was attended by heads of vocational skills competition work from human resources and social security departments (bureaus) of provinces, autonomous regions, and municipalities directly under the central government, main responsible persons of national first- and second-class competition activities, and personnel related to the 43rd WorldSkills Competition. Director Feng Jinna, responsible for competition work from the China General Chamber of Commerce Laundry and Dyeing Committee, also attended the meeting. The meeting was chaired by Director Zhang Lixin of the Department of Vocational Ability Development.
At the meeting, Deputy Director Liu Dan of the Department of Vocational Ability Development first introduced the overall arrangements for the 2015 National Vocational Skills Competition and the 43rd WorldSkills Competition. In his speech, he put forward higher standards and requirements for various competitions: 1. Focus on building a domestic competition brand; 2. Appropriately expand the scale and events of the competition; 3. Emphasize improving the quality of hosting the competition; 4. Strengthen competition publicity work.
Deputy Minister Tang Tao emphasized in his speech that, first, it is necessary to recognize the new situation faced by vocational skills competition work. Currently, more than 40 national-level competitions are organized annually, with 10 million participants each year. However, national-level vocational skills competitions are still insufficient because skills competitions are an important way to strengthen vocational skills training, cultivate, and select highly skilled talents. With 800 to 900 million workers in China, it is necessary to expand the scale and variety of competitions to better play the role of vocational competitions in building a skilled talent team and improving skill levels. Second, it is important to give full play to the leading and promoting role of vocational skills competitions in talent cultivation. Vocational skills competition activities should be closely integrated with enterprise needs and production practice, skills talent cultivation, and the evaluation and use of skilled talents. A talent incentive atmosphere led by vocational skills competitions should be formed in China, and then guaranteed through policies to promote the focus of production and life in China on talent cultivation.
In 2015, there will be 5 national first-class competitions and 38 second-class competitions, totaling 43 competition events. Among them, the 9th National Laundry and Dyeing Industry Vocational Skills Competition, hosted by the China General Chamber of Commerce and the China Employment Training Technical Instruction Center and organized by the Laundry and Dyeing Professional Committee of the China General Chamber of Commerce, is included. The convening of the 2015 National Vocational Skills Competition Work Seminar also marks the official launch of the 2015 China Skills Competition activities.
